My mom has been having a rough year because her job closed down, she's been going to interview after interview, has a degree, and still...no one will hire her. She's been working as a substitute teacher to make ends meet.

Vanderbilt Mortgage sold my mom's home without her knowing. They placed the ad for auctioning her home in a paper called the Columbia Star. This paper is not in my mom's town, so she didn't know about it to stop it.

When I called and talked to someone at Vanderbilt, they told me, if she paid $16,000 and some odd dollars, they would give the home back to her. When I tried to get in tough with their lawyer, of course I didn't get a returned phone call.

Vanderbilt told me my mom signed some kind of agreement putting up her land for collateral. She didn't! She traded in her old mobile home for the new one. I couldn't even get a copy of this so called paper she signed.

We went to lawyer after lawyer, the NAACP, and whoever else we could think of to get help. No one wanted to take the case because they didn't want to go up against Vanderbilt, or they said we were too late. But she wasn't even out of the home yet.

They had the house advertised for $50,000. When my bought the house brand new in 2000, it was sold to her for $69,000. A family member was going to purchase the house because they wouldn't let my mom buy it back. This family member was prepared to pay for it all up front.

Now they're asking $98,500 for my mom's house. We had an appraiser come out and appraise everything. The house and land together doesn't appraise for that much. How can you sell it for that much when it wasn't that much brand new. Mobile homes depreciate just like cars!

Why not just take the $50,000 cash and give my mom her home back?! I'm upset that they wouldn't work with her or give her until a certain date to raise the money. If she would've known about it, we would've helped her.

Hopefully, no one will buy the property.
