Reported to this company back in April 2012 that we wished to cancel service for my mother who has alzheimers. They would not cancel service until end of contract which was June 2012. We completed and sent in paperwork to cancel service, wishing not to renew the contract. We also made the phone call to verbally request that service not be renewed.
I just found out that Vivint continues to auto-deduct monthly payments and will not cancel her account without a power of attorney on file...why that matters I have no idea....furthermore they would not allow me to speak with anyone past a supervisor or provide information on their legal department. I highly discourage anyone using this company and their services.

Send cancellation notice now.

Do not mark your calander, send your cancellation notice today!!!! Mark your calander on the day you wish to revoke your cancellation notice if you wish to keep the service. I am a previous customer that was lucky enough to find out what kind of business I was dealing with. They operate on the edge of the law and arent worried about misleading you. If I were still a customer here is what I would do.
#1 Stop any automatic withdraws or credit card charges. If they wont stop it themselves check with your finacial instutions to take a corrective action. You might wanna even change your account number or even your bank if they wont help you. Vivint will direct invoice you if you stop payments to them. Plus they have a web site you can see your balance and any other information you need. Because even if you send a cancellation notice 30 days prior they will still bill you and withdraw funds and you will find it hard to recover those funds. I was getting direct invoices when I sent my cancellation notice 60 days in advance they still sent me invoices for 5 months after the contract had ended. A total of close to 200.00 dollars called me 3 weeks straight acting like I owed them some money. Imagine if I had given them direct access to my back account or credit card. Most banks have a free Bill Pay feature with a checking account. Use this feature I checked into them the money is transfered to the banks account and then sent to Vivint the nice thing about that is your account number is never in there hands.
#2. Send cancellation notice now. Mark your calander to resend the cancellation notice if you wish to keep the service. The contract does not stipulate a time frame on when the cancellation notice can be sent. Just needs to be in 30 in advance. If you send it 4 years in advance its still good. Just send it registered mail return receipt so you have proof cause your gonna need it if you send it 4 years or 30 days in advance of the end of the contract.
#3. Do not listen to them. Read some of these complaints. Folks have called to cancel, vivint thanks them for their call, what happens they still get a bill and are automatically renewed. You have to send it in writing registered mail, return receipt at least 31 days in advance.
By the way I stuck to my guns didnt talk to them let them know over the phone not to make their problem my problem. I got invoices for 5 months now I guess they figured I wasnt gonna be bullied or tricked into renewing with them I now get "we miss you come back" cards in the mail. Holding on to those also just incase. Proof they knew i cancelled per the contract. Good luck.

the contract automatically renews at the end of the current term. Most require notice of cancellation at least 30 days before expiration of the current term. It's all in the contract.
Be SURE to not this on your calendar to cancel before the next renewal and follow all terms of the cancellation or, you guessed it, it will be renewed again. I'm not sure why they need a power of attorney..must be some legal requirement?
I have Vivint alarm service and like it, but do understand the mechanics of cancellation if I decide to do so.
