VW Credit Did not honor Lease agreement for trade with non-VW dealer, ripoff Hillsboro Oregon
*Consumer Suggestion: It's very expensive to get out of a lease early.
When trading our 2001 VW jetta in for a new Mitsubishi, we were shocked to find that VW has a seperate pay-off amount for a trade-in. Their justification is that the lease agreement is between VW credit and the customer, and not with the dealer that is taking the trade in, therefore than can qoute any price they choose in that situation. In our particular case, the difference in price was over $1000.00 more which completely soured an otherwise good car buying experience.

Usually it's a bad idea to trade in a leased car before the lease is up. Even if you trade for the same brand of car you will almost certainly pay extra to be rid of the old one. Maybe the manufacturer will give you some incentive for brand loyalty but the bottom line is that you owe more than the car is worth.
When the lease is over you must return the car to where they want it, usually their dealer. If you don't it becomes an ordinary trade in, and again a bad deal since you owe more than it's worth. Return the car to the VW dealer and close out the lease, then go wherever you want for your next car.
