You always think that things like this happen to other people. I'm still trying to understand the logic behind the action and customer serivce I received. I've had a Walmart Money card for a few months. They make it very easy for the consumer to load the card, and they even offer direct deposit. I use the card because it allows me to pay bills, and I also have my son use the card. The problem started when I made a purchase at a GNC in California on 5/19/2011. As we all know, GNC is located in every state, and returning products is never a issue. I had thrity days to return a 65.00 item I bought in California. Since I live in GA, I went to my local GNC here and returned my item with NO problem. They asked for the original card I used to issue a credit. Well, unfortunately unknowningly, I used the Walmart Money card. The credit was reversed back onto the card right away. I tried to use my card today, and there is a block placed on it. I called customer service, and they explained that I didn't take it back to the original store, and a block is on the card. Again, the oringial place of purchase is in California. They wanted me to send the original receipt, and the new one from the GNC by mail to them, in order to remove the block. Well to say the least, I was very upset.  What if I didn't have the original receipts, some people destroy those records, because you just don't think your going to need them. They also told me they will not remove the block, unless I can furnish this information to them. I told them it makes no sense, and you should be able to return a item at ANY location, as long as it's a policy with the merchants. I called to speak with a supervisor, and of course that was pointless. They leave you on hold, until finally you get impatient and hang up. So now I have to contact the GNC and tell them to charge the funds again and give me a cash refund. This is ridiculous!! The store manager at the GNC said this sounds illegal, and it's fraud! He went a step futher and as I'm typing this warning, he is faxing over the original receipt that I gave him with my return, AND the store copy of my refund issued yesterday! WOW I really feel sorry for the lady with the children that were left stranded. It's OUR money, what difference should it make where we return something. I feel its just a reason to take peoples money because they're not governed by the FICC, which gives them the right to make up their own policies! Warning...if you use the card, do not place large amounts on it, and definitely DO NOT do a direct deposit.  DO NOT return anything if you can avoid it, using this card! It's a wake up call that you can and will be robbed of your money in a flash. So what are our rights? NONE!!  DO NOT USE THIS CARD!!!!

I LOVED my Card....

AUTHOR: piercetori - ()

POSTED: Monday, September 23, 2013

I have been a happy Walmart pre paid card owner for 4 years! LOVE IT! TILL NOW.

My card was recently blocked and I am not allowed to apply for another one. Because I broke Rule No. 7. Which says how you can use your card...

1. For cash back at walmart (I do)

2. At ATM for withdrawls (I do) and

3. To pay bills (I do),.

These are the sole purpose of using this card and internet purchases...

I started using this Pre paid card after we were scammed on an online shopping site and they drained our entire bank account. SO I no longer link any bank account to any website. I use this pre paid to make sure they can only steal so much.

I BROKE the clause under the rules for how to use the card because I USE THE CARD TOO MUCH!

Thats the reason I can no longer use this card. Which yes in the writing it says if they feel we use our card too much, they can block it, and terminate my usage with out notice.

What is terrible about it is... I live in a tiny town that nothihng is online pay (well I can pay consumers this way but nothing else). I have to physically walk in with cash and pay everything. I take this money out at ATMs then pay my bills. I followed all the rules. And after 4 years of fees and happy service... this is what they decide they can do. :(

It threw my life in a spiral. 2 of my bills were late now and I am still waiting for the $450 refund of the money pack we bought to load on the card BEFORE we knew it was blocked. Be careful!!!

No Problems.

AUTHOR: heyanny - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, April 16, 2012

I use the WalMart Money Card for similar reasons...

I am a college student living away from home and it allows my parents to help me at anytime. I am 24 and have been using a Walmart Money card for 6 Years now.

I have never had any problem returning something on the card nor have they ever placed a hold on my card for that reason... I bought something at a store in Florida and returned it in Pennsylvania.. No problem whatsoever.

Now, here's the thing, you did not mention in your original complaint that you bought it at a GNC in Cali and returned it to the GNC in Georgia with a different name.

For Instance: if I purchase something at a gas station in my hometown called Country Fair... I can return it to a Kwik Fill because they are owned by the same person... Just like Sears and Kmart, they are the same company but different names... You never stated in your original complaint that the stores had similar names, but were essentially different.

That's where the problem lies.  Also you said you lied to them and told them that you sent the faxes over and over again... did you actually wait for the fax confirmation before you called them... That statement alone should make other consumers weary of your complaint.

Walmart moneycard is a member FDIC, which means they do have certain regualtions to adhear to... They have a specific agreement that helps them prevent money laundering, My father went through this with them with one of our cards, because there was a time, and I'm not proud of it, that he was sending me 20 dollars every day during last semester and his card got cancelled because they thought he was laundering money until i called them and we provided them with a copy of the text messages directly from my phone company with me asking him to send me money for food, gas, etc.

So anytime there's money on there that they don't know where it comes from, they take notice and especially because the second store had a slightly different name it caused suspicions because let's face it, it I were a savvy money launderer I would have a front. Whether it would be in the form of a business or what have you.

As a consumer that has been using this card for 6 years with no problem, I just think you're full of hot air... as far as other people not "following the posting guidelines" you need to re-read them yourself... It clearly states to not make your entire post one paragraph.

Thanks.

Update!!!

AUTHOR: Cool Consumer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 15, 2011

While many of you have questions and advice, which is NOT why I took the time to compose this complaint. This is a valid complaint, and your comments are pointless. If you follow the guidelines and rules for a rebuttal, you should remove your comments. Let me make this perfectly clear, in my statement, the walmart money card allowed me the convinience of using it, because I am a commercial driver, and my credit union is not in every state. So it's easy to use the card and load it at any location.  This post is NOT intended for the advice of others to determine, what or when I should use my bank debit or credit card.  So if your interested I will give you my update and resolution for people that have been victimized and scammed out of there hard earn money with this card. After countless call speaking with so called supervisors and customer service reps with American names, but Indian accents, I refaxed over the documents again.  They said it was done electronically and that they never received them. I also read that from other consumers and I knew I was being fed the same generic response. I made a purchase with my card, and they refunded the same card I used back at the GNC.  Common sense will have you wonder why a company would refund you -65.24 and your original purchase was for the same amount. It shouldnt matter that the GNC was located in a strip mall and had a slight different name. No company is going to refund you ANYTHING without a original receipt! Now moving on, I did everything they asked me to do. The supervisor told me after that I needed to provide a receipt with my credit card number on it. WOW really??? It only shows the last four digits! To make a very long and frustrating story come to an end. The only way they removed my block, is that I lied and said I refaxed it over again after I spoke to ten or more agents. It took me over five hours to resolve it that day. I don't know if they just got tired of me calling in so much, checking the so called faxes, but I refused to provide anymore faxes, and waste anymore of my time. I got lucky, and they removed it. The minute the blocked was removed, I made a complete withdrawl of all my funds and destroyed the card!!

I hope this helps other comsumers in my situation. I'm not saying it will work for you, but you might have to fabricate the truth after complying to their policy and rules, or they will keep your money.
If anyone has any real constructive advice on how to resolve these complaints, please feel free to post them in the rebuttal forum.

Helpful Response

AUTHOR: mr rik - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 15, 2011

again-"-" I also have my son use the card. "

This probably means they don't want their son to have access to ALL the funds in their bank acct. And deplete their funds on strippers and beer.

Reading skills are underrated.

Why aren't you using a common debit card?

AUTHOR: Danner - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Get rid of the Walmart card. (In my opinion you should get rid of Walmart everything.) Just use a basic debit card. If you want other people on the account, have additional card(s) issued under their name with the same account #.

Too many complaints lately for rik. Not enough time to open so many complaints that he doesn't have enough thought left for a helpful response?

Question

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 08, 2011
Well, unfortunately unknowningly, I used the Walmart Money card.
- Does this mean that the original purchase was NOT on the Walmart Money Card?

If that is the case it is very obvious why they put a block on the card.  There is a Refund with no matching purchase.  This can raise some "red flags" that could cause a card issuer to put a block on the card.  In this case the company you need to be upset with is GNC because they didn't verify the card you gave them was the one used.
