I had Wells Fargo Card Services offer me a low rate of 6.99% balance transfer. They asked how much I wanted to transfer from my existing card balances. I told them "all of it". They said fine, gave me the minimum payment to pay each month, and that was that. Nothing was ever mentioned about paying for the finance charge. I did Auto Pay for the min amount they quoted me and went on vacation. When I came back, I found over the limit charges and late fees on my statement because my min pymt didn't cover the finance charge of 10.99. My interest rate jumped from 6.99% to 29.99%! I spoke with several of their supervisors and they told me they did everything under the law and that it was my responsibility to pay for the finance charge. I even went to the Better Business Bureau and the FCC, but they all defended Wells Fargo and they wouldn't lower my interest rate at all. I did another balance transfer from Wells Fargo to my Federal Credit Union, and never again will I use Wells Fargo for anything! I even emptied my checking and savings with them and now only do business with my credit union. They are crooked, sneaky, and unethical!

You seem to be a "payment buyer", and the payment was all you cared about. The credit union was more upfront with you. I have accounts at three credit unions, and they ARE upfront about everything.
But you want to be proactive and ASK about *everything* when you are dealing with money issues. People who are "payment buyers" when they buy a car or truck and who only focus on the monthly payment invariably get screwed.... usually big time.
