White Star Movers- this place is unbelievable. I have used other companies before and was very concerned about added fees at the end. I got their name from 123 movers and requested a quote. I asked Katie over and over again if they had any fees at the end and additional driving time fees and she said "NO." She quoted me for 3 hours moving time and said to have a cashier's check ready and some extra cash on hand. We got the job done in under 3 hours only because my boyfriend and I got up at 5 am and had everything except a few pieces of furniture waiting outside for them, since the movers dragged their feet and were not efficient AT ALL. Then, at the end of the process they say there's an extra $88 fee for the driving time, even though the 3 hours included the drive time. Like I said before, I asked SPECIFICALLY about this and Katie told me there was none. I was on the phone with them all day yesterday and they insulted my intelligence claiming that I just don't understand this process. I gave them a chance to correct their mistake. When they laughed in my face I told them I would be posting this on google so that other people would not make the same mistake in choosing their company as I did. So they promptly MADE UP some review which is the one below mine from July 27, 2009. Please, please don't use this company. They will burn you too and they don't care. This isn't just about tacking on an extra hundred bucks. It's about taking advantage of people because they assume that they can get away with it. I am not stupid. I was very careful to go over EVERYTHING with this company before booking them and they intentionally left out information to get my business. They are unethical and don't care about their customers.

As a White Star employee I am backing up Katie 100%. I sit right next to her daily and she speaks clearly and would never forget to tell the customer about the travel time. She has worked at White Star Movers for over two years and she does GREAT work and is wonderful with the customers.

When a potiental customer solicits a moving estimate through the website 123movers a standardized email is generated, and reads as follows:
"Dear Valued Customer,

....Our local moves are based off of the hour. The time would start when they reach your current home and it is going to run until they are finished unloading at your new residence. There will be a one hour travel time added to the end of the move. This is for them to get from our warehouse in Sterling Heights to your residence and back to our warehouse. This is a standard charge that the majority of moving companies have. For a two man crew it is $88 an hour and for three men it is $118 an hour. We would love to give you an estimate of how long it will take, but we will need to get more information from you. If you are interested please feel free to contact our office with any questions or concerns...."

Now, not only did the customer have the email sent to them, their driver has worked here since the company opened in 1988. He goes over the bill of lading, that states there will be a one hour travel time added on to the end of the move and the customer must sign, which the customer did do. The customer must sign again when the move is over. There was no problem with the move at that time and the movers were also tipped when the move was finished.

When the customer called they stated how great the movers were and that they tipped them, but they were upset about the one hour travel time. We offered to split the difference with them, but the customer did not want to. They said that we would refund them the full amount or they would go online to blackmail us. So here we are.

We are always here to please our customer, but this specific customer was not pleasable.

I feel these people are bullying WhiteStar. My daughter is the Katie they speak of and I can tell you she is very intelligent and not a liar like these people say. I know for a fact that WhiteStar has tried to meet these uncooperative customers in the middle with a $40.00 or so refund. They refuse to accept and Laura who was the only person that talked to Katie now has her boyfriend waging the war. They are the type of customer you will never be able to please. I've read all the other WhiteStar reviews and 99% of them are extremely favorable. That is what I would base me hiring WhiteStar as my moving company on...those reviews and not one disgruntled customer/college graduate.
