I saw WordSmart on TV and thought this could be a good software for my 7 year old to increase her vocabulary. So I ordered it. It turned out be a scam.

On TV, they advertised the price as $17 (or $19), and never mentioned it actually cost 3 payment of $79.99 each. I found out that after I got the package and it was too late. To make it worse, I suspect they gave my information to a company called "EZ saver/American Leisure". I ordered wordsmart on 10/29 and started seeing unauthorized charges on my credit card from "EZ saver/American Leisure" on 11/1. I am very angry at this company.

So if you see this on TV, DON'T believe them and the product is total fraud.

Another Scammed

AUTHOR: wordsmartscammedme - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, December 13, 2010

Please email me if you think you have any suggestions as to what to do next/similar stories to mine that were successful: (((ROR redacted))) Alright. So like most if not all of the rest of y'all, the wordsmart company ripped me off and I feel scammed.

Sometime in October, I ordered the wordsmart sat prep with the promise of a money-back guarantee and a 200 point increase or money-back guarantee.
Of course the product actually came later then they say it did. But regardless, I realize that I don't need it anymore because I've already submitted my college apps that I would have liked a higher score for.
I call early November and customer id number 1444 tells me I need to call back again before, and this is important, November 27th with my dad because I'm not 18. Fast forward to November 23 and already they must have taken a holiday vacation because there is nobody to pick up the phone. I call and I call from then until the 29th, leaving several voicemails, and finally I get a call from another customer rep who tells me all is well because they were on holiday and she counted my voicemails as a request for an extension on the return and gives me a return number.
Now I think everything is going to be okay. I pay $10 more to put wordsmart back in the mail on the 1st of December and give two weekends for processing. Now today, I'm suspicious because I still hadn't had the money put back on my account so I call and 1444 tells me the return date was actually the 21st of November and the other rep was wrong in accepting the return...so they're shipping it back to me with no return of money what so ever.
They say the only other thing that can be done is contacting the board of directors, but I have no idea what I would say to them via fax, how that would even help, or how long it would take for anything at all to be done.

Like I said at the top please email me if you think you have any suggestions as to what to do next/similar stories to mine that were successful:
(((ROR redacted)))

Thanks for reading, I hope everyone gets what they deserve from wordsmart, as well as they themselves get what they deserve, and I'd appreciate any and all advice you can share

WordSmart Rubuttle

AUTHOR: Faith - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 10, 2010

I want to respond to this accusation on behalf of WordSmart. I am a longtime employee here at WordSmart and would like to assure Nancy and anyone else who is interested in our product that WordSmart is most definitely not a scam. We have every one of our infomercial sales calls recorded, from beginning to end. I have listened to hundreds of these calls and I have literally never heard one call where the customer wasnt clearly informed of the follow up charges that would process after the trial expires. The introductory cost shown on the infomercial is actually $14.95, and when our customers call and talk to the sales representatives they are told multiple times, very clearly, that further charges will process after the trial expires. This information is in writing inside the first package as well. Should our customers choose to return the products in their 30 day trial they are still able to keep over a hundred dollars worth of free software.

Regarding EZ Saver and American Leisure, customers are offered discounts with these companies during their WordSmart sales call, but the customers must accept the offer for any of their information to be passed on to these companies. If the customers say they do not want the discount offers then they will not receive any contacts from EZ Saver and American Leisure. Again all calls are recorded so if Nancy was contacted by these companies that means we have a recording of her agreeing to getting discount coupons from them.

I am sorry to hear that Nancy is not happy with her WordSmart order. If she would like us to research a recording of her original sales call we would be happy to do so. She can contact our customer service department at 1-800-641-9673 and a representative can give her the address to send that written request to. As was stated previously, I have never heard one sales call recording where the charge amounts were not clearly explained multiple times. We are a reputable company that has been in business for many years, and we have an excellent product. We would not tolerate anything but full disclosure to our customers.
