We contacted World Law Direct for legal help against a person who committed fraud and theft by deception, EC.  We are in one state (PA), and EC is in another state on the other side of the country (WA).  WLD quoted us $600 for 90 days of representation and said that most issues were solved with in 90 days.  That if it went over the 90 days, further representation would cost additional but that it would be reasonably priced.

To my knowledge, WLD mailed 3 notices to EC and took one phone call from EC's attorney.  WLD advised we file a criminal complaint, which we did.  Then they said we had to wait to see if the DA would pursue the criminal case.  WLD advised us to wait several months and said if the DA did not pursue the criminal case, we could then pursue EC civilly from OUR state.

It has now been 2 YEARS and I have repeatedly asked for copies of all records on what WLD did, the name and contact info for the DA who is supposed to have been investigating the case and the cost of pursuing EC in civil court.  The only response I've gotten is for them to email some questions, which I answer and then they never reply to.

We attempted to hire WLD for another issue (and paid the $9.95 fee to get an answer) and the attorney emailed that he would call me.  The night, he was supposed to call, I had an emergency so wasn't home, however the attorney also never called that night. I emailed him the following day that I had an emergency so wasn't home and needed to reschedule the phone meeting.

I emailed 8 times since the first of the year, 2012 wanting answers on BOTH issues.  I got a reply, that the attorney would call me if I would be home as they didn't want to waste their time.  Since I was a client and have paid them, I hardly see my attempts to get information as a WASTE of anyone's time.  So, after letting them know when I am available again I still did not get a response.

So, I sent a 10th email stating that since the attorney was too busy to waste his time, he could email me the info I need. The reply: "Hi---the board has actually declined any new project here. We would be unable to proceed or advise. Also the maximum 180 days has passed since the original minor project was done and a final recommendation was given to file in small claims where the defendant lives--as did another person who won her case. As a courtesy you may reach Mr. Haskins Saturday at approx. 11 am at *** *** ****. He has not been cc'd on any of these emails. Your last payment of 9.95 will be refunded. Thanks!!"

So, this morning I phoned Mr Haskins.  He says we paid the $600 for 3 HOURS of work and that they have put in 17 hours.  Never mind that I was initially told that the $600 covered the first 90 DAYS. He also says there is nothing to send me as the emails they've sent me are the proof of their work. Only I don't have ANY emails from them except for them asking for info from me which they already had. He said that I was notified that the DA had decided not to pursue the criminal case since 2 other people have successfully sued EC in small claims and that they advised me to file in small claims court.  Problem with that, is that they DID NOT notify me of anything.  Mr Haskins says I  have all the information I need to file against EC from the WLD blogs and info I gave them in the beginning.  He also says that WLD helped two people file small claims against EC as a courtesy to ME to help strengthen my case.  But won't give me those people's info, so how does that help me?

And now he says we have to file in small claims in WA against EC instead of in PA, which is not what they told me in the beginning!

Mr Haskins also says they will not take the other case since his staff doesn't like me for running them around with constant emails.  I would have been happy to stop emailing them if they had given me any information!

Bottom line, the only work we've seen done was done by us and WLD refuses to provide anything showing any work they did.  Don't waste your money!

Contacted WLD on 02/11/2012 demanding a refund of $600 or PROOF of the work they claim to have done.  A few minutes later they replied by sending me 6 emails I had sent to them, each with a snide and insulting comment attached! And a receipt for the $600 we paid them and have been asking for since the beginning (2 years).  I've had enough of their refusal to provide any information or copies of any work they claim to have done.

Here is an email they sent to me about what representing us would cost:
"Hi--normally, in this type of matter, we would charge a one-time fee of 600 to 800 dollars payable at the "Payments" link below, or on our site. We would work closely with you until the issues are resolved to your satisfaction; that fee would be for any and all attorney work and negotiations outside of court--we doubt this matter would need to go to court...court fees if you elected to go to court would be charged at 115 dollars per hour...the fixed fee would include work for a maximum 120 day period and we expect the matter should be resolved in that time period...the fees are tax deductible in most cases."

They did not resolve ANY issues at all.  Kept telling me to wait and wait and wait until the 120 days were long over and then refused to do anything by saying the 120 day deadline had passed. They refuse to provide copies of any letters they claim to have sent.  Refuse to give me any information on who they spoke to on our behalf, even though they keep telling me they've done a bunch of research and negotiations on our behalf.  They have provided ZERO proof of any work actually done.

So, on 2/13/2012 I have notified them that I want our $600 back since they have not provided the services they promised they would provide.
