Travelers to Fort Lauderdale, FL: Be aware of this taxi cab scam. Two instances with Yellow Cab were drivers refused to take credit cards. On both occassions the drivers told me that the credit card system was not working and insisted upon cash only payment even though the company accepts credit cards

First Instance: Feb 4, 2007 Fort Lauderdale Aiport to Port Everglades cruise ship terminal. Driver upon unloading my luggage refused to take my credit card, telling me the credit card system was not working. I paid cash. $14.50 + $3.00 tip.

Second Instance: Feb 11, 2007 Port Everglades cruise ship terminal to Fort Lauderdale Airport. The baggage porter at the terminal tipped me off that the drivers were lying when they said they couldn't run credit cards. We asked four drivers of yellow cab (only cab that takes credit cards in area) if they could take the credit card. The first three were very rude. One yelled at my wife, "If you ain't gonna pay you get out of my way," before he sped off. Three drivers of Yellow Cab claimed their credit card systems were not working.

The fourth driver said he could take a credit card. He took us to the airport and lo and behold, he then tells me as we are unloading at the Delta terminal that he can't take credit cards. He even denies the fact that he said he would back at the cruise terminal. I have no cash on me so I have no choice but to be very insistant, just short of getting beligerant that he will take my card. Guess what happened? He wrote out a Visa slip and had to call to get an authorization. He held onto my card until I signed the credit card slip. I felt I had no choice but to give him a tip in order to get my card back.

Yellow Cab in Fort Lauderdale, Florida is misleading the public and is using strong-arm tactics to not take credit cards. Next trip to Fort Lauderdale, I will be hiring a town car service. Assuming I choose to ever go back to Fort Lauderdale. I can cruise out of other ports and spend my money elsewhere.

If Yellow Cab is going to advertise on their cab doors AND their web site that they proudly accept VISA, MASTERCARD, DISCOVER, and AMERICAN EXPRESS, they need to honor that commitment.

I will be filing a complaint with the Florida Attorney General along with the Fort Lauderdale Chamber and any convention and visitor's bureaus in the area I can find too.

It's obviously a scam and needs to be stopped.
