Which since you paid cash.... you should have got the extended warranty.
Obviously Rent-a-center jacks up the prices somewhat so they can make a profit also, it's your choice to pay a bit more than other stores if you would like to make payments on something.
But since you paid cash why didn't you just buy a new one or go to Gamestop instead (that's what the specialize in video games).
Also everyone know you void any store or Manufacture's warranty if you open machines up.

What in your vast repair experience with electronics gave you the idea that you not only could find out what was wrong, but had the parts and tools to fix it yourself? Then you saw an "eraser like material" on "4 electrical parts". Just what about this in your vast repair experience with any electronics led you to the conclusion that it was repaired before and not somthing like that is the compound they use to join parts together.
Also, Please tell us the name of these "electrical parts".
Now, depending on how old the XBox is it may have been under warranty with Microsoft. But since you opened it you would have voided that warranty as well.
