I have had a cancer policy with AFLAC for myself and my wife since Oct 99. I never expected I would get cancer, but was diagnosed with skin cancer in Sep 2010. I was unemployed then and was seen by VA doctor who sent my to dermatolgy to have sore checked out and it came back as basel cell cancer. They then treated me as an outpatient and cut a 3x4 inch diamond area off my chest and sent it off to check. It came back with squomas skin cancer. AFLAC says that since I was treated in a government hospital and only had to pay my copays (whice was over $250) that I am not intitled to benifits. It was fine that they took $280 every 3 months for 10 years, but now refuse to pay me benifits. Since when does a vetern get this type of treatment. I was unemployed with now insurance and could only get help from the VA.

Your remarks are SO uncalled for. How dare you make light of such a serious disease? Such an "amherst" comment. God forgive you for your ignorance. My prayers go out to the young man with the skin cancer What you do not need in your hour of trouble is an insurance company making it more difficult then it needs be. If it sounds too good to be true, then it isn't. roast the duck

Unfortunatly that is your policy, aflac does not pay if you are at a goverment hospital, there are other insurance companies that do. I use to work for aflac(I hate Them) but if you did not get a disclosure statement in your original packet, then I would look into it with your state insurance department. The disclosure statement is required by the insurance department, to be with your policy.

You have missed the whole thing. No I just had skin cancer to the tune of ~$1,000 and I did not have to spend the night. Sorry if I hit a nerve due to you having a baqd cancer. Hope your recover completely like my frien with prostate cancer is recovering.
what the complaint is that AFLAC after taking my payments for over 10 years have decided not to pay me the ~$650 for my proceedures. Their excuse is that I got covered in in a government hospital and I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket. This means that all verterns who get treated in the VA will not get any benifits, but they will take your money anyway.
Where youy get treated should not have anything to do with you getting paid. I am responsible for my services. No I don't blame AFLAC for my unemployement. That wasn't even Oboma's fault. A top official in the company I was working for extorted $350B and lost it.
I just want to see AFLAC step forward and do what is right and not try and to use a reqal loose clause to be twisted in something that is not true to get out of paying the benifits.
p.s. Hope you get well soon.

What did you expect?

Was your Cancer an Internal cancer? I'm willing to bet NO. In that case, the cancer plan (at least mine) would have paid you between $50 and $600 for the excision of skin, and that's it.
Did you spend overnight in the hospital? Have to undergo chemo or radiation? Again, I am pretty sure the answer is 'NO.' So what did you expect? This is not a disability plan, you know.
Your copays were $250, so tell me what out-of-pocket expenses you paid that you are so upset about. Be glad you don't have prostate, colon or lung cancer.
You sound like a selfish man to me. Roast the duck, huh? Careful buddy, karma has a funny way of getting back at you. You are a very lucky person to have only had a superficial skin cancer. What you got for your premiums was protection in case something really bad happened; like any of the cancers I mentioned. You were protected all that time.
But selfish Americans always want something for nothing. I suppose it is Aflac's fault you are unemployed too, huh? (Gee, something tells me you collected unemployment for as long as you possibly could; probably even filed several extensions, and I'll also bet you weren't pounding the pavement looking for a job during that time. )

This could be a legal issue...

Hi Robert,
First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis, and your bad experience with Aflac. I'm an Aflac rep in Indiana, and I just went back through all of my cancer policy info through 2007. Nowhere in there can I find any exclusion for treatment in a government hospital. In fact, I have personally paid out on other Aflac plans for treatment received in VA hospitals!
The only reason I can think of that Aflac wouldn't pay out in your situation would be that there may be a state law prohibiting "excessive" coverage for treatment in gov't facilities. All Aflac policies are state-specific because of inconsistencies in state insurance regulations.
I guess the moral of the story is to review the exclusions on your insurance policies, no matter which carrier. I'm not sure it would have made a difference in this situation, but it's good advise none the less.
Steve

It is important to READ the policy that you purchased

I know many folks who purchased the Cancer Plan (I'm one of them.) Did you not read the policy when you bought it? I seem to remember some language regarding treatment at government hospitals. Go back and look at your original policy....I'll bet you find the clause right there.
You were not 'ripped off'...rather, you didn't fully understand what you purchased because you never took the time to read the paperwork.
Be glad you don't have a more serious form of cancer. And IF, (God forbid) the external cancer you had returns, and you receive treatment such as chemotherapy or radiation at a medical center, I'm willing to bet you can put a claim in on your Aflac policy, and they will pay it.
