So here is my story: Apple ITUNES lets you download games (apps) onto your iphone.  For my kids, I only allow cheap and free games, usually only saying FREE and $1.99, etc.  My 4 year old son asked me for a game called FARM STORY, which stated FREE, so I downloaded it.  AND I ALWAYS READ the information about the game, because I once got charged $99.00 from WITHIN the game, and the excuse they made to me is that a purchase can be made from within the game.  So now it happened again!   I get a bill from ITUNES today for $49.99.  I got on their chat (BY THE WAY, NO SUPPORT, NO ONE TO TALK TO), all on chat for HOURS.    And they told me that some "Gems" were purchased from within the game, and that a password was needed to authorize.  Well that is BALONY, my 4 year old son cannot even read or write.  No password was asked.  So they told me they would not refund because they gave me a refund on a similar issue once before.  They also told me "change your password",  Which I did and it didnt help because I did allow the FREE GAME, not anything paid and it got done anyway.  Apple DOES NOT write anything about ANY purchases that can be OPTIONALLY MADE in these purchases, and I think that should be considered FRAUD.    And its obviously a common occurrence from what I read on the web.  I am disgusted that there is no one to talk to, that such a big company doesnt even BOTHER to try and make it easy for you to contact them.

Damage Resulting = Twice charges on my card, and LOTS OF INCONVENIENCE on chat lines on the web.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

There are ways to avoid this.

AUTHOR: Sam - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, September 10, 2010

First off this is not fraud or a rip off.  There are many applications that have in app purchases that you can get.  If you are signed into your iTunes account on the iPod you are using for it, you will not have to put in the password again.

The reason I am saying this is not fraud or a rip off is because if you look at the device you are using, there are parental controls on it that allow you to turn on and turn off different functions.  One of those just happens to be in app purchases.

It is not Apples responsibility to monitor the usage of the device that you have full ownership of.  If your device is not set correctly and someone makes a purchase on the device, it is not their fault because there is no way for them to smack the wrist of the person making the purchase.

If you want to go after someone for compensation, go after the developer.  They are the ones that got 80% of the funds that were paid for the in app purchase.

NEXGRAPHICS, THE UNITED STATES ECONOMY RELIES ON "TRICKERY" IN ORDER FOR MOST COMPANIES & CORPORATIONS TO MAKE A PROFIT. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "TRICKERY" & "FRAUD" IS....

AUTHOR: Karl - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, August 12, 2010

hard to define. The legal system in America will usually side with the ones who practice in trickery because it's the 'way' much of our system in this country operates.

Most of our economy in the USA is based on "TRICKERY". It occurs every day when people buy cars, homes, food, insurance.............. & just about anything else you can think of.

Unfortunately the "trickery" that takes place in the USA is not going to stop. However, it will eventually catch up to the ones who practice in these tactics and their companies will continue to be exposed all over the worldwide web.

You can write a letter to Apple's CEO and post it right here at Ripoff Report, and then make a copy of it and mail it to him at Apple's Corporate headquarters.

Who knows, maybe he'll respond and you'll get your money back. It's always best to go right to the TOP and avoid all of those who will not necessarily do the right thing, wouldn't you agree?

Good luck to you.

Not Fraud

AUTHOR: Laura - (United States of America)

A lot of times when you're logged in to the Apple Store on an iPod, or on your computer, it can remember your password, meaning that you wouldn't have to enter it again, just confirm. It's entirely possible that your son would have accidentally bought something in the game and the saved password just worked, so he didn't have to enter anything.

Onto the fact that you can buy things in games- a lot of times it's understood that the free and cheap versions of games usually have unlockable higher level and other content that can be purchase. And you should at least make sure your son doesn't accidentally buy something by maybe watching as he plays the game the first time. Then you would know if there is any unlockable purchasable content, and you would have to explain to your son to not buy them.

Certainly not a fault of Apple's.
