ASPCA pet insurance declined to pay anything more than $500 on my dog's diabetes even though I was paying them premiums, and hadn't used any services, for 5 years before he was diagnosed.

I was surprised when I got a notice saying that my dog's claim for insulin and syringes was declined because his diabetes was a 'condition that existed in the previous plan period.'  I called fully expecting it was a mistake and it would be taken care of.  Turns out, ASPCA renews its policies every year so since dog was diagnosed with diabetes last year, it isn't covered this year because it is now a pre-existing condition.  I knew the plan limited coverage to $1,500/event but I had no clue about this.  

They told me that it would only be covered if he was cured of it for 3 months and then found to have it again.  Diabetes is not going to be cured.  What a racket!

Basically, there is absolutely no reason to pay ASPCA for insurance because they will always have a reason not to pay the claim.  I have paid ASPCA $2,500 in premiums over the 5 years my dog was "covered."  They paid $500 on his diabetes before declaring it a pre-existing condition and deciding not to cover it any longer.

Do not contract with ASPCA for pet insurance.  They will rip you off.
