I was going through a tough time with how I look. I wanted to find away to improve myself. I went into Bally's looking for a basic membership to their gym. I sat down with this guy named Justin. I told him that I wanted to join Bally's, but wanted a basic membership.

I wasn't sure what that consisted of so I asked him. He said that it was a ONE YEAR contract and that I could go to any Bally's I wanted. I don't travel, but since it was in the basic membership, I agreed. He also said it came with six personal training sessions. I was also to get some kind of health package with it (which I never received).

He said I didn't need to put any money down. My total was $64.00 a month (I joined in April 2003). After I signed the contract, Justin decided to tell me that I had to put $100 down! I agreed even though I was told earlier that no money down was needed.

Well, I started going to work out. I have an eating disorder, so mirrors are not exactly on my side. Well this Bally's was covered in all mirrors. I called the supervisor and told him that I could not work out there. I explained to him why. He told me basically that that was too bad that I had signed a THREE year contract. I was stunned. I was told it was only for ONE year. He said no, it was for three. I was willing just to let it go and suck it up that I would lose 64.00 a month for a year, but three years!!!!! I didnt think there was anything I could do, so even though I was sick about it, I didn't do anything.

About eight months later, my aunt and her husband joined. Between the two of them, they pay $65.00 a month. I asked them why their membership was so cheap. They said they didnt have the membership where you could go to any Bally's in the nation. I have never been on an airplane. I don't travel. I had asked the Bally employee Justin for a BASIC membership and he left me to believe that all memberships were national. They also only had three personal training sessions. Justin told me that the basic membership came with six. I called and questioned them. The lady acted like I was a total fool. She was very unprofessional and ignorant. She "couldn't recall" the price of a Bally's membership without the national membership. Whatta load of crap. She would be singing a different tune if the tables were turned.

To this day, I never got two of the six personal training sessions, nor did I get my health package, but yet I still have to pay for them! I am sick about having to pay $64.00 a month for another two years for something I don't use. I refuse to go back there and I tell everyone I know what a scam they are!!!!!!

AUTHOR: Paul Abbott - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 06, 2008

I had always liked working out so after I graduated high school and was unable to work out there for free I turned to Bally Total Fitness which was maybe 3 blocks away.

This was within a year of graduating exactly 4 days after I turned 18. When I went to Bally's I was taken into a "sales" room where I was talking to two individuals, right when I signed my contract (which I knew was for three years, at about $40/month) I saw the other guy in the room mark a notch next to the guy who explained the contract to me. I told them I felt it was bad business practice to mark your sales records in front of customers. They said it wasn't an actual sales chart, but a daily list of who signed up. Obviously this was a lie so I just said whatever and went to work out about 10 minutes after I signed up.

Within three minutes of putting on workout gear I was confronted by 2 chizzled 'trainers' from Bally's. They proceeded to stand near me telling me my technique was wrong and that I would never lose enough weight for me to be considered "skinny" if I continued this way. I told them promptly to leave me alone and I don't need/care about their help. I know how to workout I had played football for a 2 years in HS. About 10 more minutes goes by and I am approached by a female trainer who asked me if I wanted help with a diet. I said no and asked her why. She said it was part of her to job to go around to the 'obese' members and try to help them eat better because a lot of them don't get better.

That was kind of the last straw for me. I packed up my stuff and left. I never went back, literally. I signed up, worked out for 20 minutes, left, never came back. All told I was at Bally's for about an hour and ended up spending $2,000. I paid my next 2 months, then decided I shouldn't have to pay after I was ostracized by their staff. I paid in total $300 to Bally's from my pocket. I let it go thinking they would see I was only there on my signup day (which I technically didn't sign in for, so in actuality, I NEVER used Bally's club) and they would cut losses and gain $300 from someone. Not true, about a year later I was receiving weekly letters saying I owed $2,000 then the next week it was $2,300, etc. Well now it has been close to 2 1/2 years since then. I receive letters a lot less often, but now I can't get a car, get my student loans, or get anything because of this conglomerate with its shady business practices.

I know this website is supposed to help, but honestly is there anything I can do to get this taken off of my credit history. Anything I can do at all. Please help.
