My wife and I are both college student (20 and 21 respectively) attending Broward Community College. We joined bally total fitness approximately 10 months ago because i got into a car accident a couple months prior and was trying to get back into shape. When we were signing up we were told that It was my account and that she was just being added to it and I can remove her from it if i choose to. Now we are being told that we both are locked in for 36 months and to cancel will cost $1700, which we can no way on earth afford.
Both my wife and i are full time students and also work. My wife has two jobs so along with school she is unable to attend the gym. Because my job is flexible I am able to attend. My wife has not been to the gym in over 4 months but still they refuse to remove her from the account, forcing me to pay for the membership. I have requested time and again for her to removed from the account because it is not being used, but they refuse. They are bullying us because they can and we refuse to take this lying down. We would like some help if we can to fight these corporate monsters.
Thank you.

Yea they are full of it! They need to be sued...You should look online and see if you can find any attorneys trying to file a lawsuit against them. That's what I am doing...I paid the account I have off in full....over $2,000 and they still want more money for reinstatement, new cards, and are playing around with my contract terms that I bought. They need a good penalty slapped against them and they will start flying straight. Consumers who have been ripped off need to join together with some attorneys and see them in court. For so many people to be having the same problems means there have corrupt business practices that need to be dealt with. All I can say is take your money to an attorney who is filing a lawsuit....Don't pay them a dime and dispute any items on your credit report....I paid them and they still are trying to rob me!

To the OP:
You signed a contract. You read the contract. You, hopefully, asked questions about the contract. Then, again, you SIGNED the contract.
Doesn't matter what a "salesman" says. The final decision to accept or reject is the CUSTOMER'S.

A salesperson will tell you anything you want to hear to get you to sign a contract.
Honestly, there is nothing you can do about this except pay.
