This is a third party company that services printers and computers for several of the major manufacturers such as Hewlett Packard, Kyocera, etc.  Customers that have purchased these units that have service contracts with said manufacturer call a number and the call is dispatched to Barrister.  Barrister then dispatches its independent technicians to go to the customers location and diagnose and repair the problem.  The problem is is that the technicians are underpaid.  They are independent contractors and therefore recieve no benefits.  They are paid a flat 45 dollars per service call, with no additional for trip, gas, and no taxes taken out, etc.  In heavily populated areas such as Los Angeles, the traffic is exceedingly heavy, and so at any particular time, one may be sitting in traffic for several hours, whether arriving to or leaving a job site, or returning home.  None of that trip time is conpensated by Barrister.  Also, Barrister does not pay for, or validate parking where parking is fee based such as in underground parking garages.  In congested areas such as downtown Los Angeles, that is the only parking available.  It can be upwards of 30 dollars at times.

Some service calls may be quick, but others are extremely conplicated, with the tech being onsite for several hours as they try to determine and diagnose the root of the problem.  No additional monies are paid for that time.

Furthermore, Barrister's pay system is less than desirable.  They have two ways techs are paid:  one that they call "speedy pay" in which one is paid 7 days after the work order is completed, per work ticket.  However, the company charges 13 percent for that "speedy" option.  The net pay is about 39 dollars.  The non-fee option is called "net 30" in which you wait 30 days to be paid.

In addition to low pay, Barrister fines their techs when they make mistakes, and the fines are pretty steep.  If you miss a service call that you have committed to take and that has been put on your schedule, called a no show, the fine is 100 dollars.  If you forget to check out via the desktop site or mobile app, when finished with a service call, called non communication, the fine is 25.  If you arrive at the customers site later than two hours past your ETA on your work order, you are assessed at 25 dollar late fee.  These fines are excessive and the tech is almost working for free by the time he or she is done.
