i went to bcti in everett back in fall 2000. i went for about a month, boyfriend and i broke up so had to quit.
when i went to sign up, i got some grants, worth about $3,500 or so, can't remember. when i was sent a bill for my schooling, i called BCTI up and asked them why i was getting billed. they told me that i had to graduate to receive the grants. which was bull!
i said ok, and sent them the bill back with a letter stating that i would pay a minimum of $50/month. and have heard nothing since, and are unable to get in contact with the company that controls my debt.
now i have this stupid debt on my credit and getting worse and no way of getting rid of it. i can't even file bankruptcy to get it off my credit since you can't file bankruptcy on school loans.
anyone know how to get in contact with BCTI or even that company that's killing my credit?

Actually, if it was a federal or state grant or loan, you DO have to stay in school to recieve the funds. Here is how it works:
If you leave in the middle of the term (semester or quarter) the school is required to repay the government, therefore you owe the school. If you officially withdraw before the start of the new term, the money is just returned to the government but you have incurred no cost to the college.
I know the irritation of this. I dealt with it when i withdrew from my first college. I did not understand that I would owe the school, since I had a federal scholarship. I now know better. Hope this helps!
BTW if it was private (not guaranteed by the government either state or federal) check with the specifics, they may help! GOod luck!

The owners, Tom & Morrie, cut and run a year ago. You'll have to fight it w/ the Feds if you had stafford or pell. If you did BCTI funding, tell em' to piss off.
