I went to BCTI in 2000-2001. I had perfect attendance, won awards in Keyboarding and 10-Key. I did learn a lot there. However all the big companies I interviewed for gave me computer tests that I could not pass. Why?? Because the information was not covered in class. I was sent out on interviews by the school also. However, I found that I could have gotton a job at a number of these places with out a certificate from a school that most employers laugh at. In fact the job that I did obtain I never used any of the skills I got at BCTI. Except for turning on a computer.

I felt very cheated. I feel as though most of the students there were not serious about being there and there were many times that there we disputes between teachers and students right in the middle of class and not handled very well. A lot of the students I feel didnt even have the aptitude to even be in a classroom setting. There was a gentlman who was even homeless and smelled badly everyday. Im sorry but I have seen this guy on the streets still.

I now have a very well paying job with many great benifits. But guess what I didnt need a degree from BCTI to get it. Out of every single person I have ever talked to that went there they have ALL stated they would not tell a family member or friend to attend there. The staff is not educated enough to teach. I have run into two different instructors from the BCTI I attended and they were not even willing to talk to me about the lawsuit. Gee I wonder why that is. The whole thing is a scam and unfortunately I found out too late.

Mark...Ok maybe not ALL the teachers at BCTI were not educated enough to teach these courses, however, it really doesn't change the fact that the whole thing was a scam. Furthermore my loans were not forgiven nor will they ever be. I am paying them off. I can't really say that I did not get any sort of good from my BCTI experience but I am not proud to tell anyone that I went there.

WILL TALK TO ANY FORMER STUDENT

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 24, 2006

As Tony stated there were many of us who reported B.C.T.I. to the Federal Department of Education, local governments and the local news agencies. I was involved in this process from the beginning and dealt with the Oregonian reporter who broke this case wide open.

I was an instructor in the Phase II program at the Tukwila campus in Washington. Contrary to student's assumptions, employees were not forced to sign disclosure statements or any such forms upon termination with B.C.T.I. A former employee by personal choice is the reason they will not speak with you.

In Sara's statement I do agree that the students were cheated in their education. Sara makes a general statement that the staff is not qualified to teach the subjects that were taught at B.C.T.I. I agree that many of the instructors were not qualified but like myself, I possess three college degrees and I am currently working on my Masters Degree so the blanket statement is not true as Sara stated.

As Robert has stated, contact the law firm; they are more than willing to listen to your case because I was just contacted and gave a phone deposition in regards to this law suit. There are actually two class action law suits pending against B.C.T.I. One law suit is by employees and the other by students. The employee law suit is about discrimination because if you were not in the church scene with the owners and ranking company officers, you were chastised. The student's law suit is about not receiving a proper education that was promised. I also recommend former students to contact the US Department of Education about their case and to petition them for the release of debt of their student loans.

As a former instructor for B.C.T.I., I had to constantly counsel students in professionalism and proper grooming standards. Sara is correct in that B.C.T.I. targeted the homeless, people in alcohol and drug programs, people who were transitioning from prisons/jail and those down on their luck with not finding jobs. This was hard on those of us who cared about the product we were teaching and detracted from the students who were there to learn. I also agree that the curriculum was not up to the professional standards required by employers but many of us tried to get this changed. I for one was constantly brow beat by the curriculum personnel, site directors and directors of instruction for trying to change things. The two men in charge of curriculum development had no experience in the Information Technology field, had never worked in the Information Technology field and only had experience teaching with no real world experience.

I am embarrassed to put down B.C.T.I. on my resume but since this is experience, I have to be honest with future employers. To all the students who feel they were not given the proper education from B.C.T.I. contact as many agencies as you can. Some of them are:

US Department of Education
Washington/Oregon Department of Education
US Department of Civil Rights
US and state Departments of Labor
All the area's news media
Your state's Governor
Your Congress Person
And the law firm of Gordon Thomas Honeywell ( they have two offices Seattle/Tacoma)

Good Luck.

Willing to talk to any ex students

AUTHOR: Tony - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 13, 2006

I'm willing to talk with any ex-students regarding the lawsuit. I am a former Director of Career Services of the Tacoma campus. I was one of the original individuals that reported BCTI's practices to state government, newspapers, and to ACCET.

You're Right!

AUTHOR: Scooby - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 27, 2006

Yes, some of the instructors that were hired pathetic. Some Phase I instructors were definitely Phase I instructors; they couldn't describe some of the major components of a computer to Progress I students. I had to step in for them and talked about it. It's a like a computer user teaching new computer user.
Actually BCTI had the right idea of teaching computers from every level, but MONEY was their main focus and lost sight of what an educational facility do. And because numbers means money to the owners and numbers mean job security to the staff, the staff had to everything possible to keep their job even if it cheated the students. Sorry about that guys. And finally, maybe the reason why instructors and staff could not talk and will not talk to anyone about the lawsuit is because they have sign a document that any staff simply can't talk "bad" about BCTI. We would love to discuss it with you...but we can't.
