I was contacted via email by a company called Cambridge Who's Who. At first, it seemed legitimate. I received a call from them and in the "interview", they asked all the things you would expect: what are you most proud of? what other organizations are you a member of?

However, once they had "selected" me, they let me know that in order to get the maximum benefit I needed to sign up for a membership with them. Their platinum membership was too expensive for me as were their other levels. So they said they could get me the student membership since I was fresh out of school for only $118. They asked for my credit card info and said they'd send an email confirmation, but they never did.

I've contacted my credit card company as of today and intend to call Monday to see if they'll cancel my subscription.

I didn't know that this was a ripoff. Now I know, and my next question is, how do I get a refund? I did get an e-mail confirmation of my "membership" and I simply could not afford the "gold" or "platinum" memberships, so instead, I agreed to a two year membership at $189 + postage and handling, which came to something like $208 or some figure like that.

I thought it was some big honor to receive this. Admittedly, I nominated myself just out of curiosity to see what would happen. Honestly, I don't have that big-deal of a career, I just work as a paraprofessional librarian in the outreach capacity but I am one of many in my department who does the same job. I'm no better or do no more than my co-workers. So do I call my credit card company for a refund, or what? What's the next step I should take to recoup my money?
