Today I received a call from Cambridge Who's Who.
This was in response to an online email I had received a few days ago stating I had been selected as a possible member for the Cambridge Who's Who Registry, etc. Of course, I answered the email. I was interested in marketing myself and my website design company. Anything that would legitimately promote me was worth my effort to respond.
This lady was quite amiable. Nothing wrong. She asked so many questions and to say the least the questions were quite legitimate. (The more I answered, the more she focused in on my answers.) She was quite impressed with my education, my professional background and my current entrepreneuriship--building websites. She had high praises for my "accomplishments" and went on with her "campaign" ie. membership in platinum or gold or, yes, she can work it down. She starts at $500 for platinum, then appreciated my candor that I didn't have $500 and worked it down each time I declined to pay. I finally somewhat agreed to $169 (After all, I didn't want to miss out on such a great opportunity!)
However, when I asked if I could use pay pal, she states this company didn't use pay pal. I pointed out the safe features for pay pal, I use it quite often in my business. She agrees with me that pay pal may be ok but not for this company. I pointed out that in order for clients to feel secure on transactions, pay pal keeps records of all transactions for historical purposes. Again this is to protect clients. She dismisses this suggestion because "after all, if it was readily available on their website, then 'anyone' can purchase membership and it would discredit the 'hand chosen' achiever that they were looking for.
Finally, directly, I advised her that I couldn't, under any circumstances, release my credit card number but would certainly consider sending a check. This is how I got their address. Actually, I only did this to buy time to "investigate" this company. I'm glad I did. It does no one any good to see so many people complain about this company. Way too many! Thanks for the heads up Rip-Off! This is only effective if people stand up and report their experiences to warn others.
I'm already an accomplished achiever, so I don't need any extra aggravation. Again, thanks Rip-Off for the sound off.

I as well had the same experience with Cambridge down to the letter. The lady on the phone was very nice and made it sound like this was a free membership for the select few. With that said, she started in with the compliments etc. having a background in medicine ,sales and law this sounded like a fantastic way to boost my consulting company. Then came the package deals starting at 1K, I said, "No way...I thought this was free." She then stated she could "work with me" on pricing. Long story short she got me for 400.00 by way of weaving a well versed script. So for 400.00 all I have is a silly certificate that means nothing other than I had been duped.
A month later another call to "upgrade"....this time in mid sentence she says and all I need is the back of your CC #? So we can get you in the book as it's time sensitive blah..blah. At this point , I can't even log in to the site as it says in the small legal print...{glad I am in law school} that once you are "logged in" you are giving them permission to take $ out of your credit card or bank funds. I have found Cambridge to be a total credit card scam run by Donald Trump Junior. As a medical-legal professional I had mistakenly thought this was truly a who's who. Unless you want to just give your money away to Cambridge IMHO if you receive an email delete it, if you get a phone call say no thanks. They are VERY well trained at what they do and can answer any objection off the cuff. Stay away from these guys...and what a coincidence I was just accepted into Biltmore's who's who. It's obvious they have a list and are going down the line. This company has zero ethics and the Trumps should be called out on this scam.
