I went to Wal mart here in Rochester to cash my first payroll check from my new job after three years of unemployment and boy was I excited! My first check exceeded the amount I had thought it would be and I really wanted to finally have some cash in my pocket, albeit maybe a little too much cash to carry on my person at one time. The store associate, as I believe they are titled, ran my payroll check then handed it back to me with a little piece of reciept paper and an apology for not being able to cash my check.

So.........I called the number on the piece of reciept paper and was told by an automated voice that I or my check had not met with certain criteria, and the exact criteria I had not met was then not explained to me. That is a perfect example of GREAT customer service. NOT!!!!!! I have never heard of Certegy until yesterday yet their website claims they have been providing verification services for something like 50+ years. Where? On some tiny, 1 acre, uninhabited island in the South Pacific? Piss Off Certegy, and Piss Off Wal Mart for using them. My guess is that Certegy is a storefront to provide an avenue for thieves and ne'er do wells to gain private consumer information for use or sale to other ne'er do wells.

Steven from Jacksonville, Fl does not know what he's talking about

AUTHOR: ewest305 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, March 11, 2012

Steven from Jacksonville, please just shut your trap. You obviously do not know what you are talking about mostly because you assume Certegy has access or is allowed to use your employment history to authorize checks. Further, you make the asinine suggestion of 'why not open a bank account'? Why not use your brain, Steven? In almost all cases where check cashing service is used, it is to get immediate cash without the hassle associated with a deposit! If you want to be a fanboy of Certegy, I suggest you buy a Dunce Cap and wear it because you obviously are a dunce that does not understand how Certegy works.

Bad or no check history

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

Do a search on Certegy reason code 2 and you will see reasons why the check was not cashed.

From what I can see since you were unemployed for 3 years and not getting a paycheck may be part of the reason. Another may possibly be that you may have had some financial difficulties that may include some bounced checks somewhere along the way.

Why didn't you try to open a bank account?? Why didn't you have your new employer set you up for direct deposit ( I know not all employers offer this but several do).
