I received a payroll check and had opened a new checking account but they wanted to put a hold on my check (Most banks do). So I call Walmart and give them ALL the information off the check. As their slogan said "We now cash all pre-printed checks. They said it was fine and come in and cash it.

I drive an hour and go to cash the check. It comes back with a warning "#3" on it which means nothing that anyone knows. Then they run it again and it comes back a "#5" which again means nothing other than go "F" yourself were not cashing your check.

I then call them and they did the ole "for your protection we can't cash the check because you have never used our service before." By the way this was after a 1/2 hour with their automated service. Since I was now stranded at Walmart I demand to speak to a supervisor with Certegy Check Services. They hung up on me. Another 1/2 hour of automated crap and they tell me the same thing about protecting me. Total phone time 3+ hours!!

Bottom line rudest people on the planet. Can barely speak English, told me to shut up once. Said they do cash all pre-printed checks that they approve. Can't believe Walmart uses them. They baited and switched me. The workers at Walmart told me "Everyone hates them." Just one more scam artist company out there.

Either that or register operator messed up

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, September 08, 2012

I found this info for you on the web.

Certegy has something for its customers to reference whenever a check is declined as well as some other sites from consumer experiences and explanations they were given.

Here are the code meanings:

Code 3 - ID mismatch. It could be an incorrectly entered DL, date of birth, SSN or the fact that you have a goofy last name that got misspelled in a database somewhere

Code 5 - Previously approved. This is to prevent a check from being cashed multiple times. But more often then not this comes up when the register or it's operator &#@* up.

I edited some of the info to remove foul language.

Going by the above info I would say that when you took the check to Walmart the clerk entered incorrect info and the check was declined for that reason. Then going against the guidelines that Certegy provided to Walmart the clerk re-entered the check instead of just giving it back to you (Certegy says not to attempt to reprocess a check that was already declined).
