Because I never carry large amounts of cash, it just isn't wise. And because my checks have NEVER been refused EVER. I do not have a debit or a credit card, do not want or need either.

I was standing right there, ready to identify myself to the bank, had the store manager been courteous enough to call my bank. Likewise, if the CERTEGY rep had been courteous they could have put through a 3-way call to the bank. My bank is small, and several of the employees know me by sight, by my voice, and certainly by my ID information.

Yes my bank HAS offered me credit on my good name. You are clearly a CERTEGY rep. to be so accusatory.

Never said it was personal, my point is that such behavior is rude and irresponsible on the part of both CERTEGY and OFFICE MAX. There is an unusually high volume of complaints against CERTEGY posted on the internet for all to see, many of these complaints reference an event nearly identical to what happened to me... people with excellent credit who were subject to public abuse by CERTEGY. Look around, you will find them, and additionally a petition with 723 signatures listed when I signed it.

You say you have a perfect credit history and plenty of cash in the bank, then why didn't you just pay cash for your purchase, use a debit or credit card, when I go shopping and a merchant refuses my check for whatever their reasons may be I just pull out my debit card which works the same as a check pay for my purchases and go on with life.

As a previous banking employee I can tell you that all a check is is an IOU until it is actually collected upon from your bank. These companies like Telecheck, Certegy, etc due to federal laws have no access to see what is in a persons account, so in a situation where a person writes a check these companies will run that check through their data base to check if they have any type of check writing history on that person or not, if they have any bad check writing history on file, etc. You asked the agent to call your bank again because of bank policies and federal laws the banks will not even speak to anyone other than the account holder so here you are now a check for over $900.00 dollars, you have no check writing history with this company, your bank will not speak to them and you expect them to guarantee payment of your check to that merchant. Would your bank give you a loan with out any credit, I don't think so.

As for humiliating you I'm pretty sure it's not you personally they are looking to humiliate. All you are to them is a number, they have no idea who you are plus these companies approve thousands and thousands of dollars worth of checks every hour, but on the other hand they declines thousands of dollars worth of cheks as well so you see it's not personal.
