Renters beware! We left our digital camera on the floor of the rental car when we turned it in. After the bus dropped us at the curb we realized "our mistake" and called the manager at the drop off location to ask that the camera be held for us. You guessed it, no one knew anything.

I gave the manager the name of the lady that checked us in who of course knew which attendant took it for cleaning. Keep in mind this was just a few minutes. Either the lady (name withheld but we have it) stole it, or the next attendant stole it because the manager said she checked and the camera was gone, she probably radioed out to the check in area and never left her desk.

Went back and forth with the Kauai Dollar location, I feel they are all a bunch of thieves and work together. Then called and emailed Dollar corporate, same B.S. from the lady at corporate (name withheld but we have it), she would not even try to contact the manager in Kauai, just basically said your mistake, your problem and she could care less if we stopped using Dollar Rent a Car.

Got an email from a David Roberts at Dollar asking for all of the same info that has been provided before, just more run-a-round, they won't do a thing except cover for their stealing, thieving attendants. It was not so much the camera but the pictures we lost that hurt the most.

Navarre,

My wife and I had the same experience with Dollar of Kauai. We left our camera in the glove box of our car.

Unfortunately, we did not realize this until our second leg of our return flight home. We dropped off the car at around 8:00 pm Hawaiian time, and weren't able to call the Kauai Dollar until the next morning.

They told us that the car had already been rented out to another person. They said they would try to call the new renters at their hotel to have them look in the glove box. However, they later told us that the renters had left that hotel so they wouldn't be able to check on the camera until the car was returned.

To make a long story short, the car was returned without our camera.

I have no doubt that the camera was swiped prior to being re-rented. We, like you, don't really care about the camera, but rather, the pictures it contained.

Casey

The pawn shops here are full of stolen cameras, and the pawn shops are usually owned by cops. It's a fact of life here, tourists are a cash cow that get milked, robbed, mugged, and sometimes killed all the time.

The locals here overlook their thieving kids as long as the victims are tourists, or white, which is disgusting in itself.

The bus and cab drivers are pretty good at returning lost items, but Dollar can't control their employees out in the lot. Just be happy the thieves at the airport didn't steal your luggage as a theft ring was recently busted there too, or that your rental wasn't broken into also.

Again, I apologize to you for all the thieves that are being raised here.
