Education 2020 misleads customers with false information about the company. The website claims that their teachers are content area experts with Master's Degrees. However, the majority of the employees are young people in their early to mid twenties with barely a bachelor's degree (some do not even have that). There are two curriculum managers that oversee all curriculum areas - even in areas that they are not educated for, much less an expert in.
As a result, a lot of the content in the courses is inaccurate. The biggest department in the company is "customer support" - the sole purpose of which is to correct all of the mistakes in the content that is reported by the teachers using the product in their schools. E2020 hires "contract teachers" to write and film courses - but there is no system to supervise or determine if the material and lectures are accurate and correct because they do not employ content area experts (as they claim they do). Customer support specialists receive hundreds of emails and phone calls on a daily basis to correct mistakes in the curriculum content in all course areas. If asked, they will also tell you that they plan on refilming many of the courses and correcting the content - but without curriculum specialists in place how do they plan on accomplishing this? They hire young people with no experience and education to write the curriculum and then hire more mature looking people as contract workers to film the actual lectures - thus providing their customers with false and misleading information about the courses. The "quality assurance" checks consists of a "click-thru" checklist. Employees are only asked to click thru the buttons to make sure that they work. Content is never checked. Often math teachers will QA history classes and vice versa.
As a young company they are also often playing "catch up" with their own technology. The release new "updates" about once or twice a month. Some of these updates are improvements suggested by clients. However, the majority of them are "fixes" for things that are constantly going wrong. It can be very frustrating for a teacher to be in a classroom with students and be reliant upon a product to work and the product fails. Videos often freeze, pages don't open and students can often easily figure out ways to manipulate the computer data and complicate the program. If the high school students can figure out how to do that - then why can't the technical hot shots at E2020 figure it out first to prevent it from happening? Because they are so busy trying to fix mistakes that they don't have time to create a quality product in the first place.
This company does not focus on providing quality education for their clients or students - they only focus on making a buck. Same old corporate America. Although the philosophy behind this company is sound - the actual implementation is flawed -so the product (curriculum content and technology) is bad. Buyer beware. The sales people may be slick - but take it from an insider who used to work there - what you see is not always what you get.
BTW - I am not a disgruntled ex-employee. I am, however, a veteran educator (with a Master's and many years of experience) that cares about the quality and value of education for students. I think that there are educational institutions looking for the best way they can serve their student's educational needs, especially credit recovery, and I am just offering my opinion that E2020 does not provide the best product for that purpose. I would encourage you to research further. I would suggest asking some of the schools that have actually used this product about their experiences. But ask the teachers in the classroom - the ones that use it every day - they are the ones who know about content and technology problems. It also bothers me that they advertise themselves one way (content area experts with Master's Degrees) - but in reality are the exact opposite. To me, that is very dishonest, and if that is how the business is run then how can you expect the product itself to be true? The only way you would know the truth about their employees is to hear from one who was there because the sales people and company heads are not going to - they are in it to make money not educate students.
This reports reflects my personal experience with E2020. Please use discretion when making your online education decisions and again I urge you to research further before making your decision to purchase this or any other online education product.

e2020 pedagogically challanged?
AUTHOR: E-learning Director/inst.designer/k12 Teacher - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, February 24, 2009
I have reviewed the e2020 credit recovery software that was recently purchased at an area high school. After reviewing some of the content in language arts and American Literature, I became skeptical of the software. I noticed that the video lectures had many errors not only in factual information but instructional approach as well.
The instuctors in the videos also make unprofessional refrences. An example is the video that notes Guy de Maupassant's story "The Necklace". The instructor is unable to pronounce the author's name and remarks "...or however he pronounces it". Another example comes from the same instructor who states that Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet specifically for teenagers. This kind of misleading information will only further confuse already struggling students.
Evaluating this software as an experianced secondary teacher and an Instructional Designer/e-learning Director, I am concerned that this software falls short of being an effective instructional delivery system. Additionally when the alignment with state content standards are looked at some of the standard associations are a bit stretched. The standards were placed with the activities without much thought.
The last concern I have is the system completely lacks a collaborative component. Students never interact with instructors or other students, a required component for all online classes at area colleges and universities.

#5 UPDATE Employee
Disgruntled ex-employee files false and inaccurate claims about Education 2020
AUTHOR: Cs, E2020 - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, January 22, 2009
I would like to address the many false and inaccurate claims about Education 2020 made by JSW in the report that was filed on 1/14/2009 and 1/21/2009. I am an employee who has been with Education 2020 for 5 years.
1. 1st posting says - BTW - I am not a disgruntled ex-employee. 2nd posting says - I clearly state in my report that I am an ex-employee, although I was not angry at all about being let go. Where is the credibility in these statements one day this person is not an ex-employee and another day they are?? CORRECT AND TRUE ANSWER - This person is a disgruntled ex-employee that filed this report. Education 2020 hires and keeps on staff employees that are content area experts, technologically savvy, and people who are team players who adhere to high standards. This person only worked for a few months and is no longer with the company.
2. 1st posting says - The website claims that their teachers are content area experts with Master's Degrees. 2nd posting says The curriculum is not written by Master's level teachers and not all content areas are supervised by content area experts. CORRECT AND TRUE ANSWER - Each and every core course that Education 2020 provides, does in fact have Highly-Qualified, Mastered Degreed teachers that teach and develop the courses. Education 2020 provides bios and resumes on each and every teacher. Since this person only worked for the company for a few months and not in the Curriculum Department - they were not involved in development of current course offerings.
3. However, the majority of the employees are young people in their early to mid twenties with barely a bachelor's degree (some do not even have that). CORRECT AND TRUE ANSWER - Every employee that works in Curriculum and Customer Support has a minimum of a bachelor's degree and experience in the classroom teaching. The majority of staff in Curriculum has master degrees. This person had no access to employee records.
4. Customer support specialists receive hundreds of emails and phone calls on a daily basis to correct mistakes in the curriculum content in all course areas. CORRECT AND TRUE ANSWER Customer Support does not receive hundreds of emails and phone calls on a daily basis. Education 2020 has over 10,000 students in over 34 states and our Customer Support department receives an average of 40 emails and calls per day. We have data that backs this up.
5. As a young company they are also often playing 'catch up' with their own technology. CORRECT AND TRUE ANSWER - Education 2020 has over 10 years experience in online education and are innovators and leaders in online instruction in grades 6-12.
6. This company does not focus on providing quality education for their clients or students - they only focus on making a buck. CORRECT AND TRUE ANSWER Based on many studies, E2020 is proven to be effective in improving student achievement as measured by course completion and mastery of state academic standards. The studies have also found that participating students have improved graduation rates and reduced drop outs. The focus at Education 2020 is on our students and our clients; our number one priority is helping students succeed.
In closing, I invite anyone to visit our corporate website, contact current clients, and review actual third-party studies for accurate and correct information on Education 2020 and not rely on false and inaccurate information from a disgruntled ex-employee with minimal time in the company.

CORRECT AND TRUE Update

The update listed on this report dated 1/20/09 was not written by me, JSW, the original author. Someone at Education 2020 must have hacked into the original report - AND POSING AS ME - wrote the update. I have emailed the editor of ripoff report to report this abuse.
Education 2020 is a computer company so they certainly have the engineers to figure out how to bypass the security of this site or maybe they simply guessed my password from information on my company computer and they of course already know my personal email address to sign in. This only further proves the lengths this company will go to in order to deceive the public with dishonest practices.
I clearly state in my report that I am an ex-employee, although I was not angry at all about being let go. They did me a favor. I was miserable there because every day I was asked to be dishonest with clients and conduct myself in a way that I found to be unethical. I wrote the report out of concern for students receiving bad information as I believe that most schools set out to give their students the best education possible. As I am an ex-employee I realize that people may not take my words seriously and that is why I urge potential clients to further investigate this company and its products before making their decision. There are other online education companies out there and they may offer a better product. I would just simply suggest shopping around and not just taking the word of an E2020 salesman or believing the literature that is provided by the company - because it contains information that simply isn't true.
The curriculum is not written by Master's level teachers and not all content areas are supervised by content area experts. The only ones that would know that for certain would be someone who previously worked there. Maybe content experts in your school could request to view random lessons of their chosing (not the ones E2020 chooses to show potential clients - because they are correct of course). If E2020 refuses to allow that then wouldn't you question why? Teachers from all over the country that currently use E2020 email and call the company every day to report hundreds of mistakes and incorrect content. E2020 has an entire department devoted to communicating with those teachers and giving them "politically correct" answers in order to save face while they scramble to try to correct all of the mistakes. But again, don't take my word for it - research it for yourself. If another "update" appears on this report saying how sorry I am for writing the report in the first place - there is either someone from E2020 holding a gun to my head and threatening my life - or it simply isn't true and they wrote it themselves.
If they want to have their say then they certainly have the right to do so - they need to write a rebuttal and it will be posted as well. They have the right to do that and it would be a much more honest approach than hacking in and pretending to be me and writing a false "update." Thanks.
