Hotwire.com Booked Me At The Bedbug Motel Internet, Internet

Hotwire.com gave us a hotel well-known for its bedbug population. We're now apparently locked into paying $385 for 4 nights at a Kill Devil Hill, NC, hotel in which we will absolutely *not* stay. We're having to cancel our entire vacation now which *was* to have been my wife's Mother's Day gift. Thanks, Hotwire.com!
We called Hotwire.com. Hotwire.com called the hotel. The hotel said, "We don't have bedbugs." But they have multiple complaints about bedbug infestation at bedbugregistry.com. Hotwire says bedbugregistry.com is a public site and anyone can post anything there.
Hotwire.com, you suck.

When do a research

This report does not provide creditable evidence on why the web site is a rip off. The OP is too paranoia when he got an information on the Internet.
The information gather only on the Internet cannot be used as a creditable evidence. It is called a "lead" which needs further investigation. What you said is that you found the information from a website which is public and can be posted by anyone. To me, I would take it as caution and would try to dig deeper into this situation.
For Hotwire, what they do is to check with the hotel directly and report to you the words the hotel said. They are NOT an investigator, but they are an information collector. I am sure they would take the hotel off the list if there are enough complaint from their client.
After looking at the link you provided, I am guessing the motel you are talking about is Travelodge (because it is the only one out of 3 that has the most reports). The last date on the report was Oct 10, 2011 and it was said that the case is hopefully resolved.
Therefore, your action is hasten to the worst of your own decision.

You didn't even stay at the motel. You are trusting the internet being right. Guess what? People post anything they want on these sites. You are cancelling your vacation without any substantiation of the claims about bed bugs. if its such a concern to you, why not contact the local health department to see if they would do an inspection of the hotel before you arrive?

The actual price is $422.66, not $385. Sorry.
