My 2002 PT Cruiser would not pass inspection due to Check Engine light, brake light, ABS, track light, and parking light warning lights. A general mechanic suggested that it was a problem with the PCM. Not knowing anything about auto PCM's, I was at the mercy of whatever mechanic I could find to fix the problem.
After calling around Lee Myles (Egan Transmissions) in Birdsboro, PA assured me that they could fix the issue. The mechanic called me inquiring about the issues with the car. I told him exactly what the problem was. He indicated that he would fix it.
I was called several days later and told my car was "ready". The bill was $800 and I had no way to pay that amount immediately. I made 3 trips over the next 2 wks to make payments on the car since they would not work out a payment plan. On the 3rd trip, when making final payment, I was told that the replacement of the PCM did not affect any change. All lights were still lit!
They had NOT fixed the car in any way, shape or form and would not take any responsibility for it! They NOW wanted to "diagnose" it for an additional $150! Despite their error in "fixing" the car, they would not waive the diagnostic fee nor reduce any portion of my bill.
SHADY CHARACTERS FOR SURE!!!!!

are we getting the whole story

if this customer specifically ask to have his computer replaced without any diagnosis then he got what he deserves. on the other hand if he walked into the shop and asked them to diagnose his particular problem then i would say the shop is wrong. i'm a shop shop owner and i'll tell you it's really getting tough out there. people call me all day long for prices for parts that someone else diagnosed. also i have people who want to bring there own parts to have them installed. i really don't get it would they bring there own sandwich to a restaurant? then you have parts houses scanning cars and selling parts.. then we get the car with with new parts in it and it still doesn't run right. now we have to diagnose it and fix it the right way. then you have people calling ten shops for the cheapest price and then they wonder why the car still doesn't run right. all i'm trying to say is people need to stop jumping around from shop to shop get a good shop where you trust the owner and mechanics. you're car will run better and they will have the history on your car.and shop will be happy cause they don't have to keep fixing someone else mess.

Lee Myles CEO and Manager met with my wife and I and we found that they were extremely conscientious about the steps that they had taken in the care of our automobile; all was outlined with care. We concede that a proper diagnosis is very much needed, and that, with open communication, mis-interpretations and misunderstandings would not occur. My wife and I WOULD recommend Lee Myles for your auto care. Our recommendation is that you CLEARLY communicate your needs/wants to ANY auto care facility BEFORE any work is done. AND, do not assume you KNOW best. However, can not express strongly enough that you COMMUNICATE!!!!!! Lee Myles staff is ready and willing to listen, make sure you have the time to do so!!!!
TY DALE!!!!

We would like to thank Michael and his wife for coming in and meeting with us. We feel now that they better understand that another mechanic suggesting a possible need for a PCM does not mean the vehicle needs a new PCM, nor does it replace the need for proper diagnosis. We feel that the meeting was successful and now Michael and his wife really understand the importance of proper diagnosis; so much, that they told us to give their phone number to the next customer who doesnt want diagnosis done. The most expensive repair is the one that you dont need.

First of all, we did not tell Egan Transmissions that the PCM needed to be replaced. We simply told them that a general mechanic had said that the problem seemed to be a problem with the PCM. They replaced it without first diagnosing.
In addition, the Lee Myles web site states:
We'll road test your vehicle with you, perform a fluid & leak check, and run an initial computer diagnostic scan--all for free.
None of this was done.

Expert diagnostic is not FREE

So your general mechanic guesses that your car ECM is bad. You call around and this shop is willing to replace the ECM for you. After ECM was replaced, the problem is still there and you blame them for not fixing the problem.
Did they diagnose the problem and then told you the ECM is bad then recommend replacing the ECM? I don' t believe so.
Don't you get the message when they told you about $150 charge? They want to tell you that if you want to know what really wrong with your car, you have to pay expert diagnostic fee. Don't go around and ask a "general mechanic" about problem like that any more.

I appreciate your suggestions! I have already filed a report to the Better Business Bureau and have called the Lee Myles franchise office to file a complaint. They actually DID return my call. I will be sending them a copy of my bill via scanner and email and we will see what happens!
I have also composed a letter to the owner of Egan Transmissions and will be sending it via certified mail. I am requesting a complete refund since they did absolutely nothing to fix my car!

more times that i can say or count and have given a names to places like this part throwers a common practice cause they are only some what book smart, as they have tools scanners scopes and etc the sad part is they do not know how to use them correctly then these so called shops have know business ethics a long with pride & respect for there customers it's so sad cause in there eyes you look like a giant $$$ sign. and what you can do is turn them in to the D M V or the inspection station or who ever gave them there garage license number first you would need to fill out a form turn it in then a licences tech from that states go's there and when they catch them doing this they will be fined or even shut down, at the same time file a small claims court papers and have them served then make some fliers @ home then start passing them out near this shop well i wish you luck.
