SEARS AUTO CENTER TIRE WARRANTY SCAM Grand Junction Colorado

My Dunlop tires are worn out after 25,000 miles of their 50,000 mile "warranty". I live 75 miles from the nearest store so I called the Auto Center to find out what sort of credit I could apply to the purchase of new tires (4).
Bob, at Sears Auto Center told me that because I did not buy "Road Hazard Coverage" there was no mileage warranty. I told Bob that when I was offered the extra coverage, costing about $30, no one explained that without buying it I would have NO WARRANTY!!!
I had Goodyear rotate the tires recently and they had 3/32 wear left but that didn't matter.

Get Bridgestone's next time.

It does not matter what tire you purchase or how much it is. All the tread wear warranties are the same. If a manufacture warranties a tire for 50,000 miles and it wears out in 30,000, the credit you get is based on tread depth, age, and the mileage. Most of the time the credit you get isn't much. The close you get to the 50,000 mark the less the credit is going to be. And yes, the tire does have to have even wear on them, and you do need to have proof of rotations and balances.
If a tire has any abnormal wear from a mis-alignment, improper tire pressure, or from the general lack of care, it is not covered, wether you have road hazzard or not.
The reason why I say to purchase bridgestones the next time around is because they have the absolute best warranty. They cover all of their tires 100% for 3 years against defects and wear. If that had been a bridgestone, and you wore them out before the mileage warranty and with in 3 years, you would recive a 100% credit (of your original purchase price of the tire) towards the purchase of a new one.

if the dunlop tire you bought is a model d60a2 its a piece of garbage . 25000 miles and wore out is the norm . thats one reason sears doesnt sell them any more . the adjustment offer sounds low i bet it was figured on the current price in the computer . (discontinued) price . instead of what you paid . if you pursue this try goodyear customer relations . they are the parent company of dunlop ,keep in mind sears is only going to give what they can get back from he vendor .

I phoned the SEARS AUTO CENTER today and spoke to Lori, the acting manager. She agreed to $5.63 credit per tire. That would be about what it would cost me to drive to Grand Junction and back. She said, "Bob is no longer with us" when I told her my complaint. Lori handled the matter very tactfully. The store manager was gone until Friday.
The manufacturer's warranty isn't likely to pay anything toward replacement tires unless the wear is even across the tread. Most cars don't wear tires evenly.
I called a Goodyear Dealer and was told that I would have to prove with receipts that the tires had been rotated every 6,000 miles. Big O Tires has about the same problem with manufacturer's limited warranties. In other words, you won't get much so don't base your decision wholly on the mileage ratings.
This month, Consumer Reports rates lots of tires so I'm going to get the best ones by their ratings and prices. It's odd that they got a tire for $85 but if I buy one they are $112 for the same tire!

Stony, call the Sears Auto Center again and ask to speak with the Auto Center Manager. The info you were told by Bob is wrong. Road Hazard Coverage is for damage to the tire while driving, like large punctures that are not repairable, sidewall damage, etc. If the tires wore out, after 25,000 miles of their 50,000 miles, it would be covered under the manufacturer warranty since they state under normal conditions the tires will last 50,000 miles.
If you have taken care of your tires and had them rotated and balanced regularly, and they show even wear, there shouldn't be a problem.
