Therma Tru Therma-Tru uses "Catch-22" Trick to Avoid Warranty Coverage Maumee Ohio

In January 2008, I purchased a triple door faux divided light patio unit from Therma-Tru for $2400.  A few weeks ago I noticed that there were streaks in between the glass panes of one of the doors indicating that a seal had broken (itself not a particularly good sign of quality since only 5 years had elapsed).  As the warranty does not pass to a second party then, if a customer is unable to provide the original receipt in his/her name OR if the receipt is in a contractor’s name (as was the case with mine), Therma-Tru requires additional documentation.

Feeling that the limitation was perfectly reasonable, I was happy to comply.  And I did.  But SOLEY because one of those additional documents—the “Date Stamp”—was inadequately impressed on the side of the unit BY THERMA-TRU ITSELF, no picture I took of that stamp (including one where I had shaded the stamped area over with a lead pencil) and emailed to them was fully legible.  So they denied my coverage even though I also provided them with evidence that I’ve owned my home where the unit is installed for more than 15 years and provided them with the 2008 invoice from my contractor for the unit.  And, of course, I would have been happy to have invited a Therma-Tru rep into my home to view the stamp for him or herself.

I’m extremely disappointed given what I understood was supposedly their sterling reputation.  Fortunately, I have some experience with the Small Claims Court in my State and I trust a judge will find their behavior as unjustified as do I.
