I am currently a student at University of Phoenix. I recently was hospitalized and got a doctors note for my absence. I absence was approved by the university and they were working on scheduling my next class.
I was able to start back to school as soon as they could schedule me but they scheduled me out until July 2014 which was 2 months after my hospitalization. I didn't want to take that long of break but I didn't have choice.
I got a phone call from my financial advisor stating that my lewave of absence was denied by the financial department because I did not fill out the application. I was never informed I was supposed to fill out any application because I did not request the time off. I was pushed out that far by the university. Not by my request. He stated he had sent me emails informing me to fill out this application but I have searched my email many times. He never sent these alleged emails
Then he informed me that there was a check that was going to sent to me in the mail for $1,300.00. The funds were supposed to pay for my next class I guess. I did not understand why I was recieving the funds for my next class but I said I would watch for the check in the mail.
The check never came in the mail, it got disbursed into my bank account. My bank account was overdrafted at the time and I have bills that automatically come out of that account. I did not realize that the funds were there for 2 days after it was disbursed. Therefor as soon as the check was deposited into my account. Therefor I did not have all the funds to pay for the class.
My financial advisor informed me that I would not be able to start my next class until I came up with the money to pay for it. I am 8 months pregnant and I do not have a job right now. Therefore I do not have any means to pay for my class. I was really upset because I should have never recieved this check in the first place and now I am being forced to postpone my college education because of there mistake. There is no reason that I should have to pay for there mistake.
I have been trying to figure out who I should contact regarding this issue so if anyone can help me please respond to this report. I would appreciate it.
