Recently I have fallen on tough financial times so every little bit I make counts. Well recently I made an error somewhere and overdrafted my account, it happens. I had my unemployment check go in and check my account roughly at 10am that morning online. I had some money in there and went to McDonalds for a $5 meal. Day later I check my account again and at roughly 1pm the day before US Bank decided to charge me two more overdraft fees that it left out in the morning, no new transaction had went through since that morning. So now I am negative again and would be overdrafting another charge.

So I had a small work check coming in a couple days and I waited for that, again they waited till early afternoon to put another overdraft fee through.

I have yet to call them as I was banking on these checks to turn my phone back on. I want to go to a branch to talk to someone but I can already guess their excuses of 'Our records don't show it that way, it's just the way the online banking updates." or something in that area.

This just feels like a huge scam to lure people to spend a few dollars early in the morning then hitting them with more fees.

You didn't have to..

Never once said that it wasn't my fault.

People do not write a "RipOff" report if they think THEY are at fault and are willing to learn from it and accept responsibility.  So of course you didn't think you were at fault..or at least didn't like the consequences.  The fact is that Coast is correct.  The only reason you got overdraft fees is because YOU failed to take responsibility for your your account.

On-Line banking was NEVER meant to be the sole(or even primary) method of managing your account.  The On-Line statement you see is your account as the bank sees it at that second.  It can change many times during the day.    Contrary to your "Conspiracy Theory" they are not mind readers, where they some how magically know that if they "hide" an overdraft fee you will run right out and get a $5 meal at McDonalds.

Sorry if this is too much reality for you, but if you truly accept it as YOUR mistake then you must also accept any consequences of your actions..after are you are an ADULT.  So act like one.  The first thing
you need to do is use a Check Register and write down EVERY transaction you make.  After all if you write down every transaction it is impossible to "loose track" of how much you have spent, because what you have spent is right there on paper.  In fact because of your financial situation you should be even more diligent in this to make sure you don't run into Overdraft fees.

Never once said that it wasn't my fault. I lost track and in a way to "reset" myself, I didn't spend money for several days and waited for all my transactions and my deposit to go through. Everything went through, all the overdraft fees, or so I thought, and I went off that total. There was no reason for them to wait till afternoon to post a fee on something they had already put through their system. What I am pointing out is a way for them to "lure" someone like me who lost track and didn't realize they would adding more fees hours later. It has happened twice now, and I assume that if I happen to overdraft again, I will see fees come out later in the day.

In the past, I have seen changes coming from the bank itself only in the mornings or evenings. Anything else was a transaction from a vendor. For the bank to start holding off on their fees till the afternoon is deliberate and in my opinion, malice. I spent the money. I made the mistake. The bank just helped to make sure that I would spend more is all.

A more accurate statement

AUTHOR: coast - ()

POSTED: Saturday, March 30, 2013

"Bank decided to charge me two more overdraft fees that it left out in the morning"

That is an incorrect statement. The correct statement is: This is totally my fault because I failed to enter the overdraft fees into my check register. I will continue to overdraft my account because I refuse to maintain a check register.
