Hello people,
lucky me that I found the rip-off report web-page today.
This morning I received a call from USA Credit and they wanted 99$ from me. First I talked to a man, who asked me all kinds of personal questions and who also told me, how happy I must feel that I have been pre-approved for a USA Platinum card with a 7,500$ credit line.
They wanted to give me a platinum card and I don't even have any credit at all, because I just moved to the US from Germany. I suppose I was a little naive, because I gave him all the information he wanted from me. Then he transferred me to a woman, who asked me about my checking account and routing number. I told her that I want them to charge my account at the end of the month and she said that this was ok.
To make things complete, she transferred me to her so-called "manager", who re-checked all the information that I had given them so far. They did their scam on me pretty professionally. So I hung up the phone and minded my business.
Later that day, I watched Oprah on TV and she had a show on online scams, phone scams and so forth. (Hey, Oprah has some useful shows sometimes.) After the show, my conciousness started bothering me and I realized I got scamed. So I began searching the net and I found this outstanding site.
Next thing you know, I'm on my way to the bank and I closed my checking account. Tomorrow I will try to contact those SOB's with the 800 number they gave me. I doubt that anybody will either answer the phone or cancel my application. But it doesn't really matter because they won't be able to take any money out of my account.
I suppose I caught my mistake, before it had further consequences. But who knows what those people will come up next with.
Oh, I forgot to mention that during the whole phone conversation, they keep repeating that the conversation is recorded for security reasons. Yeah right!
According to previous reports on this web page, it is really amazing how succesful those SOB's are. I don't know much about the american legal system. But isn't there a way to stop these people?
Much love
Vera
