For those of you thinking of getting USAA, dont, just don't. They are by far the most unethical company I dealt with. I had suprvisors tell me it might have been better off to risk dying than driving home.
in the winter of 08 I was at work, roughy 20 miles from my house and I didnt know anyone in the area. Anyway, durning the afternoon we got hit with a freak snowstorm and dispite many warnings my state failed to be ready for it. This resulted in the highways having 3-4"s of snow and ice on the ground. When work was done I had seen the snow still falling and it was freezing outside...I wouldnt have drove if I had a blanket or an extra jacket or knew someone in the area I could stay with for the night, but I knew noone. I started driving home and very slowly worked my way towards the highway, when I got on the highway the roads were worse than the backroads and so I proceeded to drive home at 10 miles per hour in the slow lane. What happened next was my car caught too much ice and snow and slide off and just barely nicked a guardrail but did a good amount of damage to my back end of the car.
This road was so bad that over 800 people had accidents that night coming home. USAAs stance on the whole thing was, it was my fault for driving and that I should have stayed and froze to death in my car. I guess anything would have been better than me having to make a claim, as if I wanted to anyway. It does make me glad I never got USAAs life insurance cause im sure if I had stayed in the car and froze to death they would have denied the claim and said it was due to failure to get out of the cold and that they are refusing life insurance claim. USAA has wrongfully placed me at fault for this accident dispite the fact that the true party at fault would be the state. I have made many requests to have the record corrected yet they refuse...I guess they whink I will go back to them..I would rather have a gun pointed at my head and pulled the trigger than deal with USAA for any kind of insurance again.

shady company

if you feel you have been done wrong by this company you should file a report with your local department of insurance, they will contact USAA to ensure all procedures were followed. I was screwed by them and want to get the word out that their decision is not the final one, and there are quite a few unqualified adjusters who work for this company.

I work for an insurance company and wanted to give some feedback on your comment. In all 50 states, if you have a one car incident, it is considered your fault. Guardrail, curb, icy streets, mechanical breakdown, etc.
I hate to say it but the insurance company is correct. It even states in your policy contract that a one car accident is considered at fault. And half the time you don't even have to file a claim for it to be reported to the CLUE report.
