My daughter who is 23 was so excited to buy her first car and purchased her first vehicle here at Auto House.  I was with her up until the time of signing the paperwork, because I needed to be somewhere and had to leave.

They advertised a 2024 Prius  for $27,500 with only 1000 miles on it.  This was a little higher than my daughter's budget so we tried to negotiate to $26,500 and after a couple back and forths, it was refused, so we got up to leave, and the manager then came out and eventually he agreed to $26,500.  His sales pitch was this was like a brand new car with only 1000 miles but getting it as used.
I felt comfortable leaving my daughter to sign paperwork because my son and I both purchased vehicles from them, when they were previously called "the Collection of Scottsdale."  In hindsight a very different company now.

My daughter got home hours later and my first question to her was, "did they try and sell you a service contract?"  Her answer was no, and that they didn't explain or go over anything with her, but only told her where to sign.  She mentioned being exhausted from being there so long, and I alone had been there with her for about 3 hours before I had to leave.

She did not receive any copies of the paperwork she signed.  And it took several phone calls and finally after 3 1/2 weeks she got the paperwork emailed to her.

The vehicle was financed and she put $9000 down.  It was quite a surprise to see that she was financing roughly $29,000 because they added in the normal taxes and registration, but also added a service contract that was never mentioned for $3995, gap insurance $1200, $1495 theft benefit, $599 ceramic tint , and $1199 of unexplained money.  None of these were explained or even mentioned, as she was only told where to sign.  Nor was she advised to read the contract.  She had no reason to expect anything more than taxes and registration to be added in.

She was overcharged $8488.00, however with a penalty, she was able to get back the money for the service contract and the Gap insurance.  Still being overcharged $3583.00, and later being advised that the theft benefit and window tint were non refundable.  No explanation for $1199 being added into the price.

This company appears to hope the customer won't ask any questions, so they can sneak in all these extra fees.  Therefore once the customer signs the paperwork, then they stand behind the contract being signed, and stating the customer knew exactly what they were signing.

This is so wrong, because they completely mislead the customer on any aspect they can!  Contracts should be understood before they are signed and an honest company will not hide behind the contract, with ill intentions, while it is being signed, as this company does!

Really?

Your daughter is an adult. She should d**n well know that you don't sign contracts that you haven't had a chance to read, or that you don't understand. If you are too tired to think straight, you can walk out and come back the next day. They have no obligation to tell her anything. There is a written contract, it takes precedence over anything they verbally communicate or promise. And dealerships will only waste your time if you let them. Last time I bought a car it took less than 2 hours. Get a written price quote over email, INCLUDING FEES, then look over / test drive the car and just tell them that you are not going to play games and either you do the deal you agreed to or you walk away. And it goes without saying to READ THE ENTIRE CONTRACT. If they understand that you are not a doormat, they usually won't waste their time trying to sell you stuff.

BY YOUR OWN DISCLOSURE HERE-YOU didn't even bother to stay long enough to do any good in the closing process! BY YOUR OWN DISCLOSURE HERE-YOU have ZERO CLUE as to what she was to do. BY YOUR OWN DISCLOSURE HERE- YOU did NOT advise your own daughter to READ what she was obligating herself to, BEFORE she signed the contract! This was a GREAT possibility of a GREAT learning experience YOU should have taught her but YOU don't even have the slightest clue yourself and now what YOU are teaching her is to BLAME EVERYBODY ELSE BUT YOURSELF! What the salesman says DOES NOT MATTER! There was no "hiding behind any contract" because AS PER YOUR ADMISSION, YOU saw the final figures printed as plain as day. What matters and what governs the Terms and Conditions of the sale and financing is WHAT WAS SIGNED! Wise up! She didn't sign the salesman tongue....she signed a legally binding and fully enforceable contract which YOU didn't even have the basic common sense to STAY THERE or tell her top READ what she was signing BEFORE signing anything. What bogus, add-on, phony fees did they add like "dealer fee", "electronic filing fee", "documentation fee" which slime ball car dealers are known to add. Do you fully understand the deserved reputation of the Sleazy American Car Business? How would anybody expect that of you???? You didn't even have the COMMON SENSE to tell your own daughter to READ what she was about to sign BEFORE signing anything!!!!! If you would have USED YOUR HEAD, you would have realized NOTHING is more important than being with her to make POSITIVE she wasn't scammed and if there were things added to the Contract which YOU should have read, then you refuse to sign or you walk out! Absolutely incredible!
