Report:

I am a disabled U.S. Army veteran with documented psychiatric conditions and two emotional support animals. I had been a loyal Banfield client for over a decade, utilizing their Optimum Wellness Plans (OWPs) to ensure consistent care for my pets.

In October 2024, I filed a formal complaint against a veterinarian at Banfield Greensburg (PA) due to serious communication failures involving my cat’s lab results and post-operative care issues. That complaint was forwarded to the Pennsylvania State Board of Veterinary Medicine, and a formal state investigation was opened.

Shortly after this, Banfield retaliated against me.

On March 19, 2025, I was verbally banned from all Banfield locations nationwide by a regional director. No written explanation or corporate notice was ever provided. Despite this, Banfield continued to charge me for active wellness plans and refused to provide a refund. Appointments that had already been confirmed—including a dental procedure for one of my cats—were suddenly canceled. Even my elderly caretaker, who had a separate client record, was later denied care for the pets simply because of her association with me.

Banfield claims they mailed my pets’ medical records, but I received them late and incomplete—missing key documents like rabies certificates and therapy visit summaries. Meanwhile, I’ve had to pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket to replace basic preventative care services and prescriptions. This situation has caused me intense emotional distress, worsened my mental health, and disrupted my ability to care for my support animals.

I have submitted a formal disability discrimination and retaliation complaint to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC Case ID: i25130038). I also submitted complaints to the Attorney General, Better Business Bureau (Case #23090395), and other oversight agencies. I possess call recordings, appointment confirmations, screenshots, notarized documents, and financial logs that fully support my claims.

This report is not just for me—it is for others who may be mistreated, silenced, or pushed aside by corporate veterinary chains. I urge any other Banfield clients who have faced similar retaliation or denial of service to speak up and report it. No one should be punished for advocating for the health of their pets—especially not those already dealing with disabilities.
