After I graduated college, I had a legitimate agent for many years based out of Denver, CO. Their fee was based on a COMMISSION ONLY model of 20% AFTER talent booked and was paid for a project. I left that agency (and acting) for various life events that prevented me from pursuing anything with acting.
In 2024, I decided to give it a go again. I stumbled upon Explore Talent. I liked the online, nationwide platform that they offered, especially the free aspect of it, but had my doubts about their true reach in regards to projects and being in spheres of legitmate influence.
Shortly after creating my profile, I got a call from a gal by the name of Tracy Pride. She told me that there was a 'big project' in Denver that she wanted to submit me to becuase I fit the profile, BUT I had to PAY for the year subscription for her to do so. I VERY HESITANTLY did so. I waited for weeks for her to let me know how to move forward, but she never called and I haven't been able to speak with her personally ever since.
During that year, a lot happened, including a move out of my home state, so my focus wasn't on acting, and I honestly forgot about Explore Talent. That, I had heard NOTHING from them in months!
Fast forward today. On Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, I received a text message that read:
"Hi Danica, Casting Director viewe your profile and you've been invited for a film "Mayor of Kingstown Season 4" with Jeremy Renner. Please call me ASAP 619.304.5647 if you're interested."
So, I called the number. I spoke with a 'representative' who 'confirmed' that this supposed casting director likes my look and would like to do a Zoom call with me as the next step. The gal put me on a brief hold to 'confirm' my Zoom call details, but when she came back on the line she said, "I'm so sorry, but your membership has expired and the card on file was declined when we tried to run it. In order for me to submit your information, you need to pay the year subscription."
At that, my previous suspisions where confirmed: this is nothing but a bait and switch operation filled with false promises. I declined to pay and went about my day.
Then, on Thursday, Jan 30, 2025, I receieved yet again another text. This one read:
"Hi Danica! Your profile has been viewed and you have a casting director inviation for Liam Neeson's film "4 Kids Walk Into a Bank". Please call ASAP 619.304.5647 if your interested."
Fool me once; shame on you. Fool me twice; shame on me.
If you are an actor/actress, a parent of an aspiring kid, or know someone, STEER CLEAR OF EXPLORE TALENT. Any legitimate agent will only charge a fee when work is completed and paid for. Average fee is 20%. The only thing you should be paying for are classes. Unfortunatley for me, I wasted some time and money. Best of luck to anyone looking for better; they are out there, but it's not Explore Talent.
