Purchased a new Samsung Smart TV from BestBuy. The Samsung Smart TV was installed and connected to the internet. Also purchased several paid TV subscriptions. To use the TV and its features Samsung is forcing the end user to accept their terms for use. I am not renting the television. I purchased the television. In what capacity can Samsung dictate access to my paid subscriptions. I would not have purchased this TV knowing that using the TV requires access to how I watch the TV.

Point:

When purchasing the Samsung Smart TV, there was no informational disclaimer on the TV box stating use of this television requires the end user to accept Samsungs terms and conditions for data collection. The salesperson did not point out that purchasing a Samsung Smart TV requires the end user to accept specific and personal data gathering.

Point:

I realize it is almost impossible to stop data collection. What I find frustrating is that I paid money for a television. I pay monthly for various TV content. From offer and acceptance, I now own this TV. No buyer read me first packet disclosing "Oh by the way, you cannot access your TV content unless you accept our terms for use" How is this OK? and what right does Samsung have to force the user to accept their terms to use my television. Where my benefit to owning this TV if I cannot watch programs I paid for.

Every smart device has this issue

AUTHOR: Flint - (United States)

Literally every smart device requires you to agree to some sort of contract in order to use it. It's not unique to Samsung. You should be able to use it as a TV, just connect an HDMI source to it. But hate to tell you, pretty much any device with an internet connection also has a subscriber agreement. If you are concerned about privacy, there are controls to opt out of certain types of data collection per California law.

You Paid for the Service but Not the Apps

You do not own the apps downloaded to the TV. Some software developers require the end user to agree to their terms of use. Agree to the terms so you can enjoy your new TV.
