I purchased a Canon SD790IS Digital Camera. They then tried to sell me batteries & memory cards or some 'package deal.' they said it was back ordered and that it would be 4-5 weeks before shipping. after 3months i cancelled the order.

Actually, they did want to sell you a camera...

AUTHOR: Edgeman - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 10, 2008

They just wanted to fleece you while doing it.

What they do is take out ads showing gear at very low prices. Somebody places an order and 86th St. Photo tells them that it is just for the unit itself. The charger will cost $100, the battery will cost $75, and so on...

If a customer refuses to buy the accessories, they will cancel the order. People who do buy the package often find that they are getting a grey market camera.

These guys actually operate under different names, so watch out for this tactic no matter what company you choose to deal with. If the price of an item is very low compared to other stores, it is probably too good to be true.
