I ordered a Garmin nuvi 760 Navigation system for $199.99 via the website www.86photovideo.com on 12/29/08 and received a confirmation email for my order. I got an email two days later 12/31/08 saying that I needed to call "Chris" at extension 107 to confirm my order, which sounded stranged, but I called anyway. The individual I spoke to was not concerned with confirming my order as much as he was selling accessories. When I said that I was not interested in any accessories because I had already purchased them previously, he sounded disappointed. I asked him if there were any other problems with my order and he said "no, I should be receiving my item shortly," then hung up. Two days later (01/02/09) I received an email stating that the item I purchased was no longer in stock and that I'd have to wait up for a month to receive it. They also suggested visiting the website I purchased the order from, www.86photovideo.com to cancel the order. I called up the merchant inquiring about the item I ordered, not telling them that I had already placed an order online, and they said that the item was in stock.

I did some research on the merchant online and there are many people like myself who have had the same experience with the merchant, adding that the item advertised on the website did not have "current maps," which was a bad excuse considering that the GPS manufacturer readily has current maps for free download on their website. Even if the model being advertised did not have current maps, they could be easily attained free of charged by visiting the manufacturer's website.

I feel that I was scammed because the merchant never intended to sell me the item without me agreeing to purchasing high-priced accessories with the item.

I wrote to the following organizations and used the zip code 10028 because that's the zip code for 86th Street in Manhattan (New York City) where the business is supposedly located. I suggest everyone who has been scammed like me make a report to these organizations as well:

86th Street Photo & Video is a very shady company. While I worked for Garmin, I spoke with several customers who where calling to verify what this company had told them. They usually tell people that they have to buy an expensive memory card for their unit to work, which is untrue as well. I would always recomend contacting the manufacturer of the product before purchasing anything from this company. They will be able to let you know what the product Acutally comes with, assuming that it is new and unopened.
