I'm writing to describe in detail my moving experience with Compac Moving and Storage. The experience has been surprisingly unpleasant, a drastic contrast with the company's description of its reputation as the "best in business".  At this point, I am communicating in writing, since the phone conversations with the company proved to be unreliable and traumautic to both me and my father. On this day (35 days after the pick up date), my belongings still not been delivered, I have been overcharged at least $400.00, my father has been verbally assaulted by the company's movers and my belongings are likely damaged during packing
and loading by a lone mover, instead of the 2 or 3 that were promised when I signed up for the basic insurance that would only cover the
weight of the damaged item.

On July 23, 2009, I filled out a request for a moving quote on servicenetwork.com. I needed to move my belongings from New York, NY. Most of the furniture was going to Florida and the rest was to be moved to another apartment in New York city.

Following this request, I received numerous emails and calls from moving companies with estimates of the cost of my move. One of companies, Compac Moving and Storage ( http://www.compacmoving.com , 35-8th Street, Passaic, NJ 07055, 1-888-883-0040) appeared trustworthy, as the company claimed to offer a guaranteed price and to be a member of the Better Business Bureau.

I responded to the email from Compac Relocation Dept. (estimate@compacmoving.com, 1-888-883-0040) and provided the inventory for the Florida and New York moves. After a short exchange of messages with Guy, a representative of Compac, I received estimates for both. The estimates, as well as the final contracts are attached to this message. The pick up for the Florida shipment was scheduled on Sunday, July 26 at 9:00am. The local move to New York was scheduled for Tuesday,  July 28 at 9:00am.

New York to Florida (long distance) move:
During email and phone conversations with Guy on 7/23 and 7/24, I expressed several concerns regarding the move to Florida. The first concern was the size/weight of my shipment. Guy assured me repeatedly that, based on my inventory, the weight will absolutely not exceed 2,000 lbs and, hence, the cost would not exceed the quoted $800.00. The second concern was the timing of the delivery. Since my father, Vitaliy Menis, who was to accept the shipment in Florida, is working during the daytime, I requested that the time of the delivery should be in late evening or on the weekend. Once again, Guy has assured me that this will not be a problem: shipping would take 4-6 days from the pick up date (July 26) and the absolute latest delivery will be August 1st or 2nd , 2009. Should the shipment arrive earlier, the delivery time would be in the evening and my father would be contacted prior to delivery. I provided my father's cell and home phone numbers. Finally, I wanted to purchase additional insurance. Guy told me that this would not be necessary, as the insurance wouldn't cover the boxes that I packed myself and the rest of the shipment would be packed and loaded by 2-3 professional movers.

On 7/25 I did additional research online and found complaints regarding Compac moving company on the Ripoff reports website. According to the reports, Compac would quote an intentionally low price, then pick up the shipment and inform the customer that the charge would be twice the estimate. If the customer did not agree to pay the new amount, Compac would threaten to drive away and hold the shipment for weeks
