Four weeks ago, I took my car to have a free presure test because it was overheating. The car was running fine other than that. I told them that I wanted to have the water pump and the radiator replaced. I had already put a thermostat in the car. Four days later I called them and they told me they had bad news, that my transmission was leaking. I told them that I had just had it serviced and that it was working fine. I authorised the repair of the cooling system. A week later, I called them and asked about the car and they told me that they had pulled the transmission, and it needed a major overhaul... I asked well, how much is that going to cost? and they told me,they didnt know. Two weeks later, it still was not ready, and I asked how much the bill was going to be. The answer was unreal! $5155.93.... I said that I would have a hard time coming up with that kind of money, and Gary ,the service manager told me, "Don't worry... we have financing!". The financing company told me they would only cover $3000 of the bill, and I would have to come up with the rest... The financing rate was 31%! I have all of the previous invoices from when the car was repaired... and a statement from my regular mechanic stating that the car was fine two months ago... I later found out that this company is FAMOUS in legal circles... That the federal trade commission, and consumer fraud protection departments in just about every state have had complaints... I hope that there is an attorney out there that wants to get into a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT to shut these people down forever!!! There are thousands of unhappy customers, that have taken their vehicles to them for other reasons, and had their transmissions taken out of the car. Then not given a proper estimate, until the work has already been done. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO AAMCO TRANSMISSION!! They have been doing the same thing to tens of thousand of people for over 35 years.

Sigh :(

Zapp I'm sorry but all you have here is invoices of two different shops that do not contradict each other.  You have a receipt saying you had a transmission gasket replaced at one shop which in my professional opinion implies you had a leak at some point. A statement from a mechanic saying the car was fine two months prior to the issue with aamco is irrelevant. also the statement about amaco and these filed complaints is irrelevant as well because there has not been any action taken against them and each amaci is independently owned and operated. I can understand if there was a issue with maybe a mis understanding of what Aamco might of been doing but even if that was the case you ask questions. I am very familiar with aamco policy and procedures and I know they have to document every authorization made in there records. So to say that you did not know they would be removing the transmission out of the vehicle for a internal inspection ( for a fee ) does not seem likely. I am not taking a side just giving my opinion on how it looks.

I have statements...

AUTHOR: zapp7711 - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, September 10, 2014

I have several statements from people who know me and know very well, the car I drive, every day. I was driving the car two days before I brought it to them. I had no oil stains of anykind on my driveway. The tow truck driver loaded the car on his truck by driving it on the truck. The AAMCO transmissions rebutal is a fictional account to make them look good, and we are going to court tomorrow!!! Did the rebutal from AAMCO say anything about being involved in a Federal Trade Commission report??? Or the fact that they do not hire or Keep qualified technicians working for them?

false and untrue

Let me start by saying, no shop is perfect and no shop can make 100% of their customers happy 100% of the time. We strive every day to do the very best of our ability. Unfortunately Mr. Mishlers claims are unfounded and false. Lets start with the facts: 1) On every wall and door in our shop ( in plain view for every one to see ) we have signs posted stating there is audio and video recordings at ALL times. The owner does this primarily for security purposes but the recordings can also be used for quality control.  2) On 5/31/14 Mr. Mishler called the shop at aproximately 9:30am to discuss his vehicle over heating and possibly having a transmission problem. After discussing our diagnostic procedures with Mr. Mishler, he arrived unannounced at our facility to assure himself this was the facility of his likings. At which time Mr Mishler, the owner, and myself had a lengthy discussion about BMW's and the causes of over heating issues and the possibility of a transmission problem. Again all of this is on recording.

Mr Mishler then made arrangements to have his vehicle towed to our facility. Because we close at noon on Saturdays we were unable to perform a complete diagnosis on his vehicle at that time so we put it inside our shop with plans to complete the diagnosis on Monday. 3) On Monday 6/3/14 at 10:37am after the diagnosis was completed I called to inform Mr Mishler that the water pump and radiator were both leaking and needed to be replaced with a total cost of  $1478.54 to perform the work. In addition to the over heating issue, I also informed him that his transmission was leaking out of the front seal. And the only way to determine the cause of the front seal leak and also determine if damage was caused by driving his vehicle while low on transmission fluid was to remove, dissasemble, and inspect the transmission. That fee is $695 which he authorized. He also authorized the water pump and radiator replacement at that time. 4) On 6/16/2014 at 8:52am I called to give mr Mishler a update and to inform him of the extensive internal damage done by driving a transmission with very little transmission fluid in it. At this time I informed him his repair cost to completely rebuild the transmission would be $3677.39. At which time he authorized us to proceed with all repairs totaling $5155.93, he also informed me at this time that he did not have that much money and needed help with financing.

When customers need financing we provide them an option to use one of two companies that will finance the repairs if all of the loan qualifications are met. 5) On 6/19/2014 Mr Mishlers car was finished and ready for pick up. 6) If you look at the dates on the Invoices Mr. Mishler posted, you will notice he had transmission work done at that time ( speed sensor replacement). If a transmission has a problem it will progressively get worse if not properly addressed. It is likely the vehicle did not have a leak when the transmission work was performed six months prior to bringing it to our facility, however when we diagnosed the vehicle the leak was severe or a major leak. 7) Mr Mishler also claimed he replaced the thermostat, however when we replaced the water pump the thermostat was the original manufacturer equipment and completely corroded shut. As a courtesy and with his permission we replaced a $160 thermostat at no charge to him. At no time during the process and even after he picked up his vehicle did Mr. Mishler indicate he had a problem with any of the work or pricing so it was a surprise to us when we realized he had posted this complaint.
