My vehicle stop working in my driveway (no forward or reverse) and was leaking a lot of transmission fluid from the transmission cooling lines by the radiator. I had my vehicle towed to Aamco in Bridgeport yesterday. They called after inspecting the vehicle and said that after testing that the entire transmission was bad and it had to be completely replaced for around $2,500.00.
I explained that this didn't make sense and that I did not have the tranmission leak before starting the car that morning and that the car was not driven more than 20 feet in the driveway.
After reviewing the vehicle AND speaking with the boss - They called back and said that they could replace the line set, replace filter, and flush and fill fluid for $700.00.
I called around to three other local transmission shops (Major Brand ) and found pricing for the same work for between $450 to $550.00
I went into Aamco to discuss the matter with Aamco and in my opinion:
This mis-diagnose was not an honest mistake but a deliberate attempt to overcharge me for work that was not necessary.
I had the vehicle towed to another repair shop and they performed the work yesterday and the transmission now works fine.

a SCAAMco employee was in your driveway in the middle of the night.
You may have just needed some transmission fluid. Transmissions tend to "quit working" when they get low on fluid.

Aamco is entirely dependant on private retail business brought in by their extensive advertising. New and used car dealers needing transmission service would NEVER consider Aamco. Their reputation preceds them.
