Want to know the truth behind the money making scams at Aamco Transmissions in Greensburg,Pa 15601 ???? Then you should read on. I have been ripped off.

If you have ever had any kind of work done on any of your vehicles, regardless of what the problem was, you my friend have been taken for your hard earned money. Here are some examples of how you have been ripped off.

1.Diagnostics.Here is how they lure you in. 99.999% of the vehicles that get diagnosed have a simple to fix problem. So you could very well, like in most cases, especially with newer vehicles, have a sensor ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR TRANSMISSION, that would only take 5 minutes to swap out for a new or used one, that would only cost anywhere between $12-$50 be THE ACTUAL PROBLEM, well guess what, they will tell you your transmission needs rebuilt. So instead of only paying the afforementioned price to have your transmission FIXED, you will be paying anywhere from around $500-$2000. Doesn't it just make you sick???

2.Transmission Power Purge. Now this is a joke. It doesn't matter what year vehicle you have or how many miles are on it, they will say you should have it done. Now let me remind you, this costs $99. This is what they are SUPPOSED to do. They hook a machine (in some cases like they are supposed to do, but only 15% of the time hook it up) up to your vehicles transmission cooler line and flush out your used tranny fluid and replace it with new NO NAME bottom of the barrel the cheapest they can buy in bulk DEXRON 3 fluid.

Now some of you are thinking, Ford takes Type F, Chrysler takes another type of fluid, yeah that's right, you get what they give you IF YOUR FLUID IS DIRTY. If your vehicle already has clean fluid in it, guess what?, YOU ARE PAYING FOR NOTHING!!!!! They do not and will not flush out clean fluid. If you have had this done, you got took of your loot.

This needs to be told to everyone. Here is what needs to be done. Somebody should if they haven't done already, and I am making attempts to have this done also. Call your local news channel, or even a bigtime show that is on TV, and set your vehicle up by putting dye in the transmission fluid that is already clean, nice and red. Go and have the "Power Purge" done and have your vehicles fluid checked to see if the dye is still present.I guarantee that it will be. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE PEOPLE !!!!!!

Nauseated yet?? Read on......

3.Transmission rebuilding. They make it look good. Your transmission will have 75% if not more of it's original parts that it went in with when you pick it up. Yeah, that's right, your part of the bill includes the price of a whole rebuild kit, they put in only WHAT WILL MAKE THE TRANSMISSION FUNCTION, alot of times, an inexpensive sensor. In some cases, about 40% of the time, your transmission will fail again before your "warranty" is up. And at that time and that time only, they might actually put all the new parts they should have the first time your vehicle was there. Your transmission will appear to have been "rebuilt" from the outside. You will be lucky if you receive a new torque converter.

4. Parts supplied. You get aftermaket no name parts at more than premium part prices.

I can go on and on but I have a limited amount of space here. The facts above need to be spread out to everyone who has a vehicle. The truth needs to be heard by everyone. Print this out, make copies, send it to people you know or just post a copy or a hundred in you supermarkets, hangouts, car clubs, even your enemies, all will thank you once THE TRUTH HAS BEEN HEARD. TELL EVERYONE

IS LARRY BARISH OF GREENSBURG PA AAMCO A FRAUD, OR SOMETHING ELSE?

AUTHOR: john - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 26, 2010

1. I can see that this person is obviously an ex-employee, and a very unhappy one! But a disgruntled employee would not go into such detail and length, unless there was some truth. Who would ignore being sued for slander? Who would 'burn a bridge' on his work experience, to such intensity, just to expose Larry Barish. I doubt if Larry will talk up Bob during an employment verification call. Bob isn't getting paid, but rather putting himself in harm's way.

2. This website has a purpose to give consumers and employees a right to voice their opinions without fear from retaliation. It is for those of us who have been mistreated by a merchant/employer. When reading Larry Barish's rebuttal, besides several spelling errors, he is trying to get "Bob's" identity (his 'challenge' to his identity, and his 'offer' to satisfy him at his shop)! Instead Larry Barish could have focused on rebutting Bob's claims; example would be defending the power purge, or the transmission parts. When an accused person attacks the whisle blower rather than the statements being made, the trust weakens with him. Larry, I also wasn't sold on you being the community hero, not after your strong language. Bob, you grammar sticks too. You should sit down with the police and let them handle it. The sad news is that there are many such outfits. It isn't just Larry Barrish, it is the whole d**n Car Service industry that needs improvement.

I am sure the honest mechanics and shops far outweight the crooks, however you should always protect yourself against fraud by asking for the old parts to be kept. Of course an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so keep up on the routine maintinance and avoid the huge repairs.

AAMCO Rip Off

AUTHOR: Fred - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 23, 2005

I was an AAMCO dealer many, many years ago and I have no interest now in them but this guy who is complaining here knows nothing about transmissions and is probably a cheat himself. There are many honest AAMCO dealers and I dont believe any of what he posts here.

Most obvious is the fact that he is unaware of the very basic fact that type F fluid is not used in cars today nor has it been for the last 20 years yet he lists this as a support to his alligations.

I think he is a nut.

Typ F

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 11, 2005

You miss the point Type F will work did I say it was the right fluid? As far as come backs the last time I biuld in a shop it was less than 2% what is yours I no longer build in a shop all though we do go through units on a weekly schedule and then run them on dynos to see where the problems lie. We also buy cut outs and they are broke when we get them, also go to a few good shops to look at what our customers have to deal with. Of coarse as to the two you mentioned we do provide them with a few things now and then. But to get back to what you were saying yes I at one time or another have been in a place where a guy has talked me into moving into a area and then I found out I made a mistake but with a family whats a man to do but to work for a while start looking and saving to move again. You mean you never worked for any one that was crooked? not even a sales man that was litle dishonest? Also the biulder and the R&R man does not control the shop. The owner and salesman do so do what I did when I would go to them and tell hey man you should'nt have sold that one and they would tell me to build it anyway I would put thier name on it as builder. The same for those insurance fleet accounts when the ajuster would not allow a part to be change out I would put the adjusters name on it so if it didn't last I could atleast have record as to why it went down south. The men in the shop are not the crooks most do'nt understand whats going on those that do well they just do'nt care and in my opionion are just as bad as the owner and salesmen, What are you? As for me I got out of it as far as shops go because it was time I was smart enough to go to school and get a degree, Had a good enough rep to get hired by a company before I had finnished my last year and in two thousand was offered a partnership, I now control what goes in and what does'nt and that what counts to me we supply a lot of electrical components to alot of different companys out there. but thats nothing new when they first came out with drive by wire in the mid 80s and they did'nt have testing equiptment for them I made one for my self thats when I knew that the shift kits of the future was'nt going to be springs plates and valves but transisters and resisters now they are whole logic circuits and I am a part of that. Although I do wish the customer would not think that this will make his car, truck, semi, or what he is driving do the unbelieveable things no our goal is for the guy who buys the diesel turbo truck that farms or tows alot of light equiptment to last longer the shift pattern is changed for the increased power of the motor the same with the gas trucks to, or the kid with the new high performance hot rod out there who as spent god knows how much on that motor will now have a better shifting automatic or a clutch that you almost have to try to burn up. But the point is I control what and how good the parts are that are put in and that what counts

It's a common, but sad story

In my experience, ALL nationwide franchise based Transmission Repair Shops are guilty of gouging the customer at one time or another. Of course an owner is going to defend to the upmost his integrity, but his hands is not without blood. Over the years I've been around, owners LOVE IT when they "get lucky" and sell a transmission overhaul, when the only thing it needed was a sensor to correct the shift problem. Of course a transmission is the most neglected part of a vehicle, most people only service it once if at all. A common failure in transmissions is the knee jerk reaction of the customer to have a fluid service or flush done when they experience a shift quality issue. This is the worst thing you can dc especially on high milage vehicles. This can kill a transmission. Usually on high milage vehicles with a shift problem will warrant an overhaul. Putting new seals and clutches and a torque converter will 'refresh' a transmission and give it new life. The prices of this will vary from company to company, just remember, the bigger the phone book ad, the more expensive the repair! Nationwide franchise have to cough up at least 5% of their sales to the national office and may have to pay into an 'ad fund' among other fees and dues. Full page phone book ads can run $2k a month! Services like courtesy shuttles and free loaners add to the overhead.

As far as transmission fluid goes, Dextron/Mercon works in all vehicles, although you need to add friction modifiers for some makes. Lube Guard has additive that allow Dextron/Mercon to be used in virtually every make and model. Type F fluid is used so rarely I never hear it mentioned anymore.

Transmission cooler lines always need to be flushed after a overhaul, and a new torque converter needs to be installed. If neither of these things are done, your newly overhauled transmission will die an early death. Electronics on the transmission need to be replaced as well, I recommend that NEW solenoids are used and not REBUILT. A properly rebuilt transmission is worth its weight in gold when you are able to get new life out of your car, usually for less than 3 or 4 new car payments. It is the integrity of the shop you are dealing with that will dictate whether you get a good repair, or a sloppy patch job. When a shop is going to charge you four digits for your repair and they are too tight to even give you a new filter and pan gasket, it puts all shops in a bad light.

So much for quality.

Peace,

Robert is right...Greg is inept.

AUTHOR: Nate - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 07, 2005

Greg, you seem to have absolutely no idea about what you are attempting to explain. Robert is right about Type F transmission fluid being a product of yesteryear. I'm sure the shop you work in at this time is an ASE facility with only ASE technicians who are very concerned about quality. Fat chance.

It is truly amazing to see yet another person who believes poor quality and no ethics are the way to succeed in the automotive world. Please tell us who you work for so we can all avoid a mistake in the future...

So Greg admits to being one of those guys who rips off customers, great job there Greg.

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 07, 2005

Type F fluid is nothing like any other fluid except B&M Trick Shift. Want to know why? Because Trick Shift is Type F in a different bottle and has blue dye instead of red. Using the wrong fluid will damage a transmission. This is the reason the manufacturers designate a specific fluid type for each transmission. I cannot even imagine how many "comebacks" you were responsible for Greg. I am sure the owner of those shops loved it when you left their employ.

So Greg admits to being one of those guys who rips off customers, great job there Greg. I know more than you do. In fact, I have probably forgotten more than you will ever learn. I have never had to rip off a customer to earn a living. You have admitted to doing the opposite.

Between the two of us, I am the one with credibility. Now you say you are building shift kits for trannies. Great...another way for you to destroy someones ride. Let me guess, drill a hole here, throw away the checkballs, and stretch this spring. Uh-huh. Please let us know the brand name you are building under. I hope it's not Gil Younger or Art Carr. Those are the ones I use.

Sure can

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 07, 2005

I worked for different shops for close to twenty years. Closed down a few croaked ones to check out AAmco Cathedral city CA. 1989. I also started when you use to get brass shavings in your pocket every mourning for the pan drops along with a broken metal sealing ring for the old power glides. Now back then you had a re builder for every make. But I learned from my Grandfather and he believed you got a sign on the wall saying you rebuild transmissions you better be able to do all of them plus theres enough broken out there that you don't have to make one broke to sell it. Worked for a few crooks in my time. But as to the remark made about type f fluid, Well I bet you don't know that if you use type f and don't mix it it will work but then thats what happens when you don't under stand anything about them (another parts changer). I now am partners with a company that designs shift improving components. This I became after going back to school and receiving a degree in science.Of coarse you wouldn't understand what that is either. I put my self through school and supported my wife and three children by testifying in court for people who had been ripped off by transmission shops and also a few times for different State agencies in a few States that is how I know what I know now lets hear about how you came to know what you know.

Their all a little dishonest

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 03, 2005

Sure they will sell you a tranny to replace a sensor but so will a dealership and then with the dealership you have to understand they will be collecting from you and the factory to behind some hidden warranty. and as far as the owner saying I have my man build to the highest! Oh come on man you don,t let that poor rebuild spend that kind of money very few of us have the stomach to stand up to a owner. But now you have to understand what you pay for is not all parts as a matter of fact about 80% of what you pay for is knowledge the rebuilds now he will usually not get paid for it by the owner but never the less thats what you pay for if you think its that simple heck pull it into your drive way jerk that sucker out and fix it your self!. But as far as AAMCO is concerned I would say that about 70% of the shops are dishonest. Heck man if the tech dept is dishonest then their dishonest from top to bottom. I know they ripped me off but if you have to rip off somebodies Else's idea then you aren't very smart either.

POSTED: Wednesday, September 28, 2005

I'll ignore everything except the fluid issue. There hasn't been a transmission made in the last 20+ years that used Type F.

Since Bob is not very well versed in the subject he is ragging on, I would hope most people will accept the rest of his diatribe with equal doubt.

I get the impression Bob no longer works for AAMCO. I wonder if he had any of these concerns when they paid him every week.

There's so much wrong in it, I'll just leave before I get dizzy.
