I just reeived a collection notice from Afni for a debt they claim is originally from Verizon for a number in New York from 13 years ago. Although it was our phone nember at the time and we did live there, We had no idea we owed any money to Verizon. The amount in question is $42.00. I am amazed that it took 13 years to find us. We have verizon now. You would think if we owed them money they would not give us service. My records don't go back that far so I can't look and see if it was paid or that I even owed the money. We have to take their word for it.

These peoples attitude is very condescending, like we delberately ran from our obligation. Who do these people think they are. Anyone out there know how we can get to the bottom of this. I know it is only $42.00, but it is the principal of the thing. Is there a statue of limitation for this type of thing?

AFNI posts like yours are widely available on here so many of those may help you. Also, you want to check the statute of limitations on debts in your state as this may be beyond the SOL and legally uncollectible, even if legitimate.

Steve (not a lawyer) from Bradenton hopefully will be along shortly to give you some tips on dealing with AFNI
