AFNI AFNI collections attempting to collect a debt from Verizon from ten years ago, and its not me!? Bloomington Illinois

I recently received mail from a company called AFNI collections, and it stated that they are attmpting to collect a debt for Verizon New York Inc, in the amount of 116.92. Stunned, I called the number to inquire about this and was told that this was for a home phone line with an address in New York that I never resided in! They also had said this was from approximately 12 years ago. I lived in New York, but never at the address they claim, and have been living in Florida for 10 years now! What is strange is that I recently opened up a cellular contract with Verizon about three months ago. They were verbally abusive, and when questioned just told me to dispute it on their web site.

I have seen similar complaints, and am wondering how to go about fighting this. I certainly dont need my credit taking a true UNJUST hit!
