On May 5th 2006 I was flying from Orlando, Florida to Atlanta, GA. then on to Newark, NJ. The flight leaving Orlando was delayed so when we landed in Atlanta, GA. Everyone on the flight had missed their connecting flight. I was not given a hotel room,or even a meal. I was just stranded at the Atlanta Airport by Airtran until the next day when I caught another flight to Newark, NJ. Customer service refused to help in any way and said that it was not their fault. If a flight gets cancelled or delayed. It is the airlines fault.
I would not recommend that anyone fly on Airtran Airlines because you cannot be sure that you will ever get to your destination.
Best Regards,
Richard

I appreciate the attention
AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

I appreciate that Pete has paid so much attention to my problem and I guess that he is not going to suggest a resolution other than to roll over and take one for the team from Airtran. This forum was designed to empower the consumer and I was using it for that purpose if I just wanted to complain I could do that in any chat room. But I do have the power to do something.
I have the power to never fly Airtran again. I make 3 or 4 flights a month and will continue to do so on other airlines. I can understand that someone might feel I am just complaining, but I don't understand why Pete would waist time posting about it creating a negative experience for himself. If Pete is an offended Airtran employee I am sorry but my comment is directed at the company policy not at any individual employee. I have been discussing this mishap on my radio show in Florida for the last few nights and have had nothing but supportive comments from the show audience. So I guess opinions vary.
Best Regards,
Richard

But being a public forum, Peter, Robert or anyone else has the right to post a response. You may not like the answer, but that's the way the mop flops.
The situation is over and done with. Nothing even an airline rep could say is going to "resolve" anything.

"Hijacked?" "Held against your will?" Did they physically restrain you without your permission, or did they simply not succumb to your unreasonable demand for a FREE hotel room? If this situation was so bad, why did you not call customer service from the airport and try to rebook for another flight? Why did you not suck it up and get a hotel room yourself if that is what would have made this situation all better for you? It is obvious that you are just crying sour grapes now because you did not get exactly what you want!
And, may I recommend that you use words such as "hijacked" cautiously when discussing air travel? In case you did not know, authorities tend to take words such as that particularly seriously, for obvious reasons. Get your foot out of your mouth and think before you speak (or write).

Atlanta Airport

My husband flew out of Atlanta on May 5th, coming to NC. His flight was scheduled to leave at 7 something but left about 2 hours later. He did NOT fly airtran but another airline that shall remain nameless. The reason (he was told) for the big delay was on that evening there was bad rain and storms in parts of Georgia and through S. Carolina. Here in Raleigh, NC there were thunderstorm warnings that night.

Redirected or Hijacked?

Pete, I can see that you did not understand what happen clearly from what I wrote. I don't understand how you can call flying a group of people to the wrong destination and then leaving them stranded all night accomodating??? Unless you are an Airtran representative who can saitify my complaint, or have had a similar experience with Airtran and can tell me how to seek satisfaction, you have no reason to post a response. I did not see in your post anything that would resolve the situation. If you do have an idea on how to solve this problem for future Airtran passengers please feel free to post it here. Otherwise I don't see why you would waste your time with this posting.

What is the problem??!
AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

So they DID try to accommodate you by redirecting the flight, getting you to an alternate airport very close to your home. Funny how your original "complaint" fails to mention this. You also do not mention it in your post, but normally when airlines do this, they also provide ground transportation (i.e., bus) from the alternate airport to the one you were supposed to fly into. SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?? They did plenty to accommodate you and make sure you arrived at your destination.

Mechanical Delay
AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, May 10, 2006
Is the person who made the rebuttal and Airtran representative???
The Airtran representative at Gate 17 said that our flight from Orlando was a mechanical delay. Not only that, but Airtran had redirected a flight that was supposed to go directly from Sarasota, FL. to Atlanta, GA to pick us up in Orlando. The passengers from Sarasota were in effect, held against their will and taken to a destination not of their choosing. This was my third flight with Airtran and each flight I have had with Airtran was delayed. They have a 100% failure rate with my experience.

Why was it delayed?
AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

It depends upon the reason for the delay. If it was weather or air traffic most airlines will not cover the cost of meals or hotel stays. If it were for mechanical or overbooking they might.
