Job # W652337
On March 5th, 2007 I relocated from Coconut Creek, FL to Chicago, IL. I hired All Year Round Movers, Inc to move my goods. The original quote from them was $1236.00 but at pick up an extra $687.00 was added because they claim that I had more goods than what was on the inventory which was partially true.

They charged me for my dresser mirror (I dont know of a dresser that does not come with a mirror) claiming that I did not inform them that a mirror was attached to it. Then they charged me for my bed's head board and foot board ( I did mention to them that I had those items), carpet rugs, lamp stand light, and a few boxes. I had given up on these issues since I had no other choice but to go with the other charges because I had to catch a flight and return the keys for my apartment. (my goods stay with them in storage till I call for delivery)

On April 27th I called for delivery and they told me that the truck was leaving on the 1st of May, then changed to the following week, and on and on. I called almost every couple days or so and not once have they returned my calls.

Finally, on Sunday, May 20th, 2007 they came to deliver but the driver claimed that he could not get to my street because it was too narrow and told me that I needed a shuttle (which will cost about $600.00). I explained to him that there was another way of getting to my house via the back entrance and the truck would fit in. He told me that it was not a problem to try to go through that street and since he had another delivery, he will get it done first, then come back in 2 hours (it was about 10:45am CT). He never came back nor called.

I called him several times with no answer, I finally got a hold of him by 3:00pm CT by calling him from a different phone number and he told me that he was in downtown Chicago, IL and will come down soon and promised a phone call as well when he was leaving. He never called nor came to deliver. After calling him several times, I finally got a hold of him by 6:00pm CT and he told me that he was on his way to IOWA and was not coming to my place since his boss told him to go to the next delivery. He said that he was sorry about it and promised to deliver the next day (Monday) early in the morning.

I waited on Monday morning and he never came; and I called him several times with no answer. I finally got a hold of him on by about 2:00-3:00pm and he told me that he will call his boss and call me in 10 minutes. He never contacted me but somebody else (from a storage company in Illinois) contacted and informed me that my goods were in storage (which was not true, they were still in the truck) and I needed to get a shuttle to get them redelivered at an additional charge of $350.00. I declined to pay and contacted the office in Florida and explained the matter to them, they also claim that I have to pay the fees. I did explain to them that the driver went the wrong way and the trailer will be able to get in. They claim that this is a common problem in the state of Illinois that the trailer cannot get access to certain areas because of cars parked on the street (and they have never advised me of such common issues before). Additionally, there is no parking on that street from 7:00am to 4:00pm.

Just to get this over with, I offered to rent a truck myself and let them use it to deliver my goods. They claim that I have to pay them $275.00 for manpower. At this point, I informed them that I am going to seek legal advice and file suit. I tried contacting the state attorneys office but they claim that they only handle criminal matter. I tried to file a police report and they claim that this was a civil matter and I needed to either get an attorney to file suit or do it myself.

At point, I just wanted to get things over with and for the lack of trust in them I decided to pick them up myself. I hired a local moving company and the helped me get the stuff from the storage facility.

The night before I pick up the stuff, someone in Illinois that was with the driver called me at about 9:00 pm 10:00 pm telling me that their truck is going to the storage to unload my stuff and some other goods in a storage facility to load back up to head back to Florida. He gave the option of coming with a truck and they will just load my goods to my truck instead of putting them to storage. Thats when I found out that my goods were never in storage as they have stated before and harassing me to pay for a shuttle (smaller truck) to deliver my stuff.

When I got the stuff off storage my mattress was dirty (while I paid them extra to wrap it), lot of scratches on my dresser, head board and footboard. There was a big dent on the headboard, many of my glassware were broken even though I wrote on the boxes Fragile and did my best to wrap them really good. That tells you how much care they take in handling peoples goods.

I contacted them with these issues, they have never replied to any of my e-mails, nor my phone calls. As of now, I am still missing stuff from them that they havent deliver. I have talked to the dispatcher Ben and the manager Sophie, neither have returned my calls to give me a status on whats going one with my stuff. I have e-mail them pictures of dents on my furniture but it seems that they dont want to deal with it.

It has been now 4 weeks, I have never gotten from them any words on whats going to happen. Ben (the dispatcher) told me that I should just get them myself (pretty much he is saying that I am not going to get them), Sophie claimed that the Claims Department should have contacted me (when, I am still waiting).

I should have just moved things myself and I would not have had any headache. Something needs to be done with All Year Round Movers. I have filed a report with the Better Business Bureau and they told me that they have not had positive results with this company before. They are a bunch of crooks.

Report Bad Business Practice Everywhere you can

AUTHOR: Jodi - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 19, 2007

I had the worst experience with this same company. Please report your experience with every site that will allow you to tell your story. Also, If you can go to (((ROR REDACTED LINK FOR SECURITY PURPOSES))) and report your experience under the company name it helps. Most people use this search engine for movers and the review help to warn people. Good Luck. I'm not done with them yet. I'm goint to try my best to make them pay for their bad business practices.
