In order to stop being billed for the Blinko service, all you have to do is send a text message to the five digit SMS code that shows up on the bill right in front of the line on the bill.

It is possible for Alltel to stop billing, but the system that is in place to do so is complex and only works about a third of the time. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to issue a credit back to a customer only to check back one month later and find that the charge reappears.

The service that you are getting billed for is one of those shifty services that you will see advertised on late night TV or on MTV/BET for a free ringtone or to play games from your cell phone. You get signed up by either sending a text message or by punching in your cell number on their website.

I take about 80 calls a day, and at least 10 of them are cases of this sort of transaction. Rest assured that you are not the only one who got hit with one of these things.
