I advertised a Nikon zoom lens on Amazon.com.  They emailed me that it had been sold and gave me the shipping address.  They said Amazon would credit my account once I had shipped the item and emailed proof of shipment back to them.  The sales price plus shipping was $1,582.  

I followed their instructions and shipped the item the same day.  Amazon sent me an email saying they had a minor problem with their "marketplace database" and that I would be credited with the money in 2 to 3 business days.  A week has passed and no money.  Nor will they respond my repeated emails requesting an update on the status of their payment.  

Amazon's emails had grammatical errors in them--the English sounded broken.  I have been defrauded by Amazon.com to the tune of almost $1,600.  I was counting on this money.  Please give me some advice on who to contact in order to pursue this.  How do I file a complaint with Amazon?  I only have the one email address which does not respond to my inquiries.

You didn't give many details but it sounds like you may have been scammed..and not by Amazon.

It does sound like a different twist, as people will try to send you counterfeit money orders or cashiers checks for more than the item.  In the hopes you send back the extra and the actual item before you catch on.  So if this is a scam just be very glad you are only out the lens and not extra cash.

If the e-mail address is from sites such as gmail, hotmail, yahoo..etc it is a scam.  For example, amazon-payments@gmail.com is a scam, payments@amazon.com would be valid.  Perhaps you can post the actual e-mail address in question, or even a copy of the text of these e-mails.

Next, a huge company does not have a problem with their "database" effecting money without it making national news.  The third and most telling is the grammatical errors in the e-mail.  This is indicative of a scam as the people that are doing this are in a foreign country and do not know the English language.

Unfortunately, if this is a scam, going after Amazon isn't going to work...sorry.  Your best chance would be to track the item to the address it was sent and see if you can contact the local authorities.  However, if this address was a foreign address your chances are about zero in being able to track this down or get any assistance.

you have been scammed by a person who just sent you an email saying the item was sold and to ship it to someone that receives goods then reships them to the scammers. Amazon didnt send you the email especially if it had broken english.
