American Debt Foundation gets richer, Debtors loose everything. Please stay away from these leaches and all other companies claiming to help people with their debt.
My wife and I signed up with ADF in mar 07 as a last resort before claiming bankruptcy. We always considered bankruptcy as something we never wanted to do. ADF told us to stop all payments to creditors immediately. We felt relieved at the time as all of the harassing and lawyer phone calls were to stop. WRONG !!
After only six months with ADF, and $1132 lighter, one of our creditors lawyers garnished our checking account. That was dooms day for us as all of our bill money was taken from us, checks were bouncing, automatic withdraws were NSF. ADFs payment was NSF, that, by the way they charged us $30 for.
The bank now has us overdrawn for over $1200. We have now retained a REAL lawyer and are in bankruptcy proceedings.
I contacted ADF immediately and told them to cancel our program and please send me any refund of my escrow. Believe it or not I did receive a check. After fees, and fees for the fees I received a check for $67 Thank you American Debt Federation.

#1 Consumer Suggestion
Debt settlement companies

Depending on the stage of you debt, I as a collector think that settlement companies have limited value. If the accounts in question have not charged off, you are paying someone to hold your money, and from my experience, not work with creditors. This usually turns into worse credit, or lawsuits. Just not paying your bills, is a tough option to take. I would suggest try and work with the creditors. YOu may find some that are of no help, but some that really help out. As an example, my company can offer a hardship program of 1% of the balance for a minimum payment, and a lowered interest rate. While it is only a temporary plan (up to 1 year), it gives the time needed for some people.
If the accounts in question have already charged off, the damage is done to your credit already. However, a settlement company can not stop a lawsuit.
